Description
Cerberus is a demon who serves as the Guard Dog of Hell in the anime Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, later appearing also in its sequel, Virgin Soul. Physically, she is a tall, young-looking woman with bright red eyes and extremely long red hair, which she typically wears in two high ponytails. On top of her head are a pair of dog-like ears, identifying her non-human nature. Her attire is consistently skimpy and revealing, consisting of a red and brown bra and matching underwear, along with red and brown leggings that cover her feet, all complemented by an orange cloth that hangs behind her. A near-constant feature of her design is the presence of two small, sentient hand-puppet dogs, named Coco and Mimi, which she wears on her hands.
In terms of personality, Cerberus presents a complex mix of traits that often seem contradictory. She has a very cheerful and childish demeanor, yet she is also deeply sadistic, showing a keen interest in torturing others using various painful methods. Despite being prone to impatience, she is also surprisingly languid for much of the series, preferring to spend her time idly lounging on a floating chaise lounge rather than actively participating in events. Her primary motivations are largely self-serving; she frequently demonstrates a lack of true camaraderie with her fellow demons, Azazel and Pazuzu. She often argues with them and shows no hesitation in abandoning a failed mission to report their shortcomings to their master, Lucifer. At the climax of the first series, when the dragon Bahamut is revived, Cerberus shows genuine fear and distress for her own life. However, despite her cowardice and lack of raw power, she is not without courage. She twice assists in the battle against the world-ending dragon Bahamut, showing a brave side that emerges when the situation is dire.
Within the story of Genesis, Cerberus is a supporting antagonist who, along with Pazuzu, is tasked to help Azazel in his search for the person responsible for stealing the God Key. Her primary utility in this quest is a unique tracking ability; whenever the central character Amira transforms into her demon form, Cerberus is able to sense and locate her, a power that eventually leads to Amira's capture. Her relationship with Azazel is notably strained and marked by a lack of respect. She frequently mocks him, threatens to report his failures to Lucifer, and takes pleasure in teasing him, such as when she visits him in the prison of Cocytus.
Cerberus's role develops further in the sequel, Virgin Soul. The story shows her living in the human capital of Anatae, where she works in a brothel alongside other demons as a means of survival. In this setting, she interacts with the human knight Alessand Visponti, whom she tries to cheer up when he is despondent about the fate of the Orleans Knights. When the human king launches his final assault against the gods and demons, Cerberus joins her kin to fight, cheering the arrival of Lucifer and later lending her power to help maintain a defensive shield against Bahamut once more. Her primary abilities, aside from tracking, seem tied to these defensive formations, as she is shown capable of helping other demons and angels project a barrier. She can also use her hand-puppets to scout areas or search for individuals, and during such feats, her eyes have been seen to glow gold.
