Description
Beelzebub, also known as Belzebuth, is a major antagonist and a very powerful demon in the series. His primary goal is to overthrow the existing demonic hierarchy, specifically the Demon Lord Lucifer, and to exterminate all gods. To achieve absolute rule over all demonkind, he seeks to free and control the ancient, world-ending dragon, Bahamut.

Beelzebub is a ruthless and power-hungry individual who is willing to commit any atrocity to achieve his objectives. He takes great pleasure in causing chaos and destruction, viewing everyone, including his own kind, as inferior and as tools to be used for his own ascension. His cruelty is exemplified by his willingness to sacrifice his own creation, Amira, who is the closest thing he has to a daughter, without a moment's hesitation.

His primary role in the story is as the orchestrator of Bahamut's revival. Beelzebub's plan unfolds with the help of his subordinate, the sorcerer Martinet, also known as Gilles de Rais. Acting on Martinet's advice, Beelzebub kidnaps and tortures an innocent angel named Nicole, forcibly extracting her essence and combining it with his own to create a hybrid child, Amira. The purpose of Amira's creation was to serve as a vessel, or the Transcendent Key, that could be used to break Bahamut's seal and, as Beelzebub believed, allow him to control the dragon.

Beelzebub remains in the background for much of the series, allowing Martinet to manipulate events and guide Amira on her quest to collect the God and Demon Keys. After Amira obtains the keys and reaches Helheim, Beelzebub reveals himself. He and Martinet torment Amira with the horrific truth of her birth, even forcing her to watch her "mother" Nicole die, in order to trigger a desperate emotional state that fuses the keys within her. He then coldly imprisons her and transports her to Abos, the site of Bahamut's seal, to complete the revival.

Upon Bahamut's reawakening, Beelzebub declares himself the ruler of all demons and the annihilator of the gods, ordering the dragon to demonstrate its power. However, his moment of triumph is short-lived. Bahamut proves to be uncontrollable and turns on its would-be master, blasting him with a devastating attack that leaves Beelzebub fatally wounded and his lower body destroyed. In his dying moments, he realizes that Martinet had deceived him, and that the promise of controlling Bahamut was a lie. Cursing his former servant for the betrayal, Beelzebub is ultimately killed by Azazel, a fellow demon seeking revenge for his own earlier near-death at Beelzebub's hands.

Beelzebub is a master of black magic and a formidable combatant, often using a long, thin black staff as a focus for his powers. His notable abilities include summoning and controlling destructive blue flames for attack. He can also create a magical prison, trapping individuals in a glass-like forcefield with just a glance. Furthermore, his power was instrumental in the essence extraction process that led to Amira's creation, and he was able to place a protective enchantment on her.
