Description
Kaisar Lidfard is a central character from the anime Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, originating as a human knight before becoming a bounty hunter and later reclaiming his status as a captain in the Orleans Knights. Born into the prestigious Lidfard family of knights, his life was upended when his father, Laurus, was tasked with guarding a royal tribute. A group of bandits led by Favaro Leone's father ambushed the unit and stole the goods. Held responsible, Laurus was publicly humiliated and hanged in front of a young Kaisar. Subsequently stripped of their noble status, Kaisar's mother wept daily until she took her own life by drowning in a lake half a year later. Burning with a desire for revenge and to restore his family's honor, Kaisar became a bounty hunter, specifically targeting the son of the man he held responsible: Favaro.
Physically, Kaisar is a tall man who typically carries himself with a proper, knightly posture. He has long black hair swept back and secured with white barrettes. His attire often consists of a green shirt with white stripes and a dark green vest, complemented by white pants and armor pieces. He is consistently depicted with his knight's sword sheathed at his side.
Personality-wise, Kaisar is defined by a rigid and unwavering sense of honor and justice. He is a righteous man who strives to follow his own ideal code of chivalry, which often manifests as a haughty or stubborn attitude, especially in contrast to the more roguish Favaro. Despite this rigidity, he is also deeply empathetic and compassionate. This is notably demonstrated when he encounters Rita, a young necromancer; even after discovering her true nature and the tragic circumstances of her zombie village, he shows her mercy and spares her life. His tragic past, having been a rebellious son who distanced himself from his strict father, left him with a profound appreciation for family bonds, and he despises those who take their loved ones for granted.
For the majority of the first series, Kaisar's primary motivation is to capture Favaro Leone, believing him to be the architect of his family's destruction. This obsession drives him to chase Favaro across the world, and he tends to interpret Favaro's actions in the worst possible light, such as accusing him of working with demons. However, his motivations are rooted not merely in revenge but in a deep desire to clear the Lidfard name and restore the status he feels was unjustly lost. His role in the story is that of a foil and reluctant ally to the protagonist, Favaro. Initially an antagonist in pursuit, Kaisar is repeatedly thrown into the same perilous situations as Favaro and Amira. It is eventually revealed that the demon Azazel was the true mastermind behind the ambush that ruined both the Lidfard and Leone families, clearing Favaro's name and shifting Kaisar's focus toward the larger threat of Bahamut. By the end of Genesis, he has reconciled with Favaro, been knighted by the King, and appointed captain of the Orleans Knights, receiving an artificial hand to replace the one lost in the final battle.
Kaisar shares several key relationships that define his journey. His relationship with Favaro Leone is the most central; it evolves from childhood friendship to bitter enmity and finally back to a hard-won mutual respect and camaraderie. He forms an unlikely but loyal bond with Rita, the necromancer, who becomes a steadfast companion. He also meets Amira during his pursuit of Favaro, and while he is initially charmed by her beauty, his sense of duty quickly takes precedence as he becomes involved in protecting her and preventing the resurrection of Bahamut. In the sequel series, Virgin Soul, set years later, Kaisar has fully recovered his noble title and serves King Charioce XVII with intense, absolute loyalty, willing to sacrifice everything for his monarch.
Regarding notable abilities, Kaisar is a highly skilled and formidable swordsman, a product of his rigorous knightly training from childhood. He is proficient in combat and survives numerous violent encounters with demons and other supernatural foes. He also provides stable, tactical support in contrast to Favaro's more chaotic fighting style. One of his most unique possessions is the Bounty Hunter's Bracer. In the world of the series, bounty hunters use this device to capture demons, which are then magically transformed into a card as proof of the bounty.
