Description
Hansa is a supporting character who appears throughout the anime Rage of Bahamut: Genesis. He is a small, duck-like creature with blue eyes and a tiny golden crown on his head, a visual appearance that belies his true nature as the reincarnation of a god. In the setting, he also holds the position of a leader among a group of bounty hunters.
Possessing a much more grounded and focused personality than his typical companion, Hansa shares a fondness for alcohol but is considerably less prone to idleness. He often finds himself needing to scold and motivate his partner, whom he does not consider to be very intelligent. Hansa is fundamentally good-natured and demonstrates considerable bravery, willingly placing himself in dangerous situations to help his allies and improve the world. While he sees himself as the voice of reason, he is not immune to making mistakes. He is also known to occasionally inflate himself for various purposes.
Hansa plays a crucial supporting role in the narrative, primarily functioning as a guide and a source of transport for the bounty hunters. He is frequently seen in the company of another character, and together they manage bounty-related affairs from within their carriage. During the journey to confront the awakened dragon Bahamut, Hansa uses his ability to fly and change his size to carry the main characters past obstacles and directly into the heart of the battle. His actions are motivated by a desire to aid his comrades and prevent catastrophe.
His most significant relationship is with his divine companion, whom he constantly reprimands and assists. He also forms a bond with the main characters, particularly Favaro and Kaisar, providing them with crucial support during the final confrontation. In the sequel series, set ten years later, this relationship deepens as he interacts with newcomers like Nina. He participates in schemes, gets captured alongside his companion, and even shares drinks with new allies, showing his role as a consistent, if unassuming, presence in the group.
Throughout the series, Hansa demonstrates notable supernatural abilities. His most useful power is shapeshifting, which he uses to alter the size of his body and body parts at will, often growing to double his original size. He also possesses the ability to fly, a skill he uses effectively to transport himself and others during aerial combat and travel, proving that his small form should not be underestimated.
