TV-Series
Description
Jared Gan is an elderly elf and a prominent figure among the Landers, the native inhabitants of the world. He currently holds the eighth seat on the Ten-Seat Council, the ruling body of the powerful Plant Hwyaden guild based in the city of Minami. Prior to this, he was known as the Sage of Mirror Lake, a title he has since beenqueathed. He is also the former master and foster parent of Li Gan, the individual who succeeded him as the Sage of Mirror Lake and is known to other characters like Shiroe.
In terms of personality, Jared Gan is best described as a "mad scientist" type, driven by an insatiable and morally unburdened obsession with knowledge and experimentation. He is not constrained by typical ethical obligations, viewing them as secondary to the pursuit of results. His demeanor is often crude and rude, and he can be physically abusive towards those who annoy him, most notably his Plant Hwyaden colleague Quon, whom he is seen striking with his cane. His primary motivation appears to be the advancement of research and magical techniques, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world without regard for conventional restrictions.
Jared Gan's role in the story is largely tied to his position within Plant Hwyaden, where he serves as a leading authority on magical studies and history among the Landers. He is a key figure in the technological innovation and development occurring in Minami, working alongside another council member named Zeldys to pioneer new techniques. He is also a former Sage of Mirror Lake, which connects him to the broader world's lore and history. It is known that before he left his post as Sage, he stole documents from the Sage's library, and he has also deleted parts of the Book of Rings, a historical record written by successive Sages, in order to conceal certain knowledge. This suggests a desire to control or hide information for his own purposes. Officially, he is believed to be deceased, making his continued existence and activities a secret from those who knew him in the past.
A key relationship in his background is that he was the teacher of Li Gan, the current Sage of Mirror Lake, and acted as his foster parent. Li Gan believes his old master to be dead, leaving the truth of their connection and whether Li Gan is aware of Jared Gan's continued survival or actions ambiguous. Within the Ten-Seat Council, his interactions with Quon are notable for his open contempt and abusive treatment of him. During the Operation Red Night storyline, he was present on the Steel Train and observed the battle between Nureha and Soujiro Seta, gleefully discussing the violent scene as he was intercepted by Nazuna. Jared Gan has demonstrated a willingness to explore forbidden or dangerous magical research, such as during the Red Night operation where he used an item to summon followers regardless of his class to gain experience from the summoned monsters, pushing beyond normal boundaries in his studies. His development is shown through his ascension from the Sage of Mirror Lake to a powerful political and research position in Plant Hwyaden, and his continued pursuit of knowledge that others would consider off-limits.
Regarding his notable abilities, Jared Gan is an Archmage of significant power and knowledge, holding the esteemed title of the Great Archmage of Miral Lake. His class is identified as Summoner, with a specialization as an attacker in the rear guard. He possesses a high level of magical proficiency, reflected in his character statistics with a reported level of 36, 2282 HP, and 3567 MP. His real strength lies not just in combat but in his scholarly expertise, as he is a leading authority on magic and history, using his knowledge to advance technological development and uncover or conceal ancient secrets.
