Description
Anna Luis is the late mother of León Luis and the wife of Germán Luis. She is a character of significant importance whose actions, though occurring largely before the main storyline, directly shape the destiny of her son. A Makai Alchemist by training, Anna comes from a distinguished bloodline associated with the title of Garo, being the elder daughter of the previous Golden Knight and the sister of Esmeralda Valiante. This heritage makes her the maternal aunt of Prince Alfonso.
Seventeen years before the series begins, Anna and her husband were captured during a witch hunt orchestrated by the king's advisor, Mendoza, who used her as a scapegoat to further his plans to reawaken a Horror. She was sentenced to be burned at the stake. Her personality before this tragic event is described as sweet, gentle, and optimistic, with a tendency to see the best in people even when they were hunting her. She was also, in a lighter vein, a bit ditzy, notably unable to control her horse.
In her final moments, while enduring the flames, Anna gave birth to her son, León. Using her skills as a Makai Alchemist, she placed a powerful protective spell on him, a curse known as the Seal of Protective Flames, which encased him in fire to shield him from harm. She died from her burns after urging Germán to flee with their newborn child. This spell became a permanent marking on León, a constant and volatile reminder of his mother and her sacrifice.
Anna’s role in the story is primarily as a posthumous guardian. Her presence is felt through the seal on León, which both protects him and causes him to lose control when his emotions flare. However, she makes a direct spiritual intervention during the final battle against Mendoza. When León confronts the immortal Mendoza in the Makai Realm, Anna’s spirit appears. She reveals that the flames were not a symbol of revenge but of a mother's love. She then transfers the seal from her son to Mendoza, causing the villain to burn eternally, unable to regenerate. With this final act, she traps Mendoza forever and guides her son back to the human world.
