Description
Garm is a Watch Dog who appears across multiple eras, directing the actions of Makai Knights from behind the scenes. Physically, she takes the form of a small, young woman with white hair, but this appearance is deceptive, as she is far older than she looks and her true form is implied to be something quite different and potentially horrifying.
In terms of personality, Garm is typically characterized by her lazy and bored demeanor. She is often seen lounging on cushions while indulging in sweets or other leisurely activities. This apathy extends to her professional conduct; she has a habit of giving half-truths, ignoring direct questions, or changing the subject entirely. For instance, she mockingly refers to a major antagonist as Mendooza and is seemingly indifferent to a rising death toll, viewing it as a necessary component of a larger strategy to thin out the Horrors' numbers. Her laziness becomes more pronounced by the time of the Vanishing Line era, where she prefers to have an assistant deliver her messages rather than speak to her subordinates directly.
Garm's primary role is that of an overseer and information hub, stationed at a Watchdog Center. In the kingdom of Valiante, she monitors events and summons Makai Knights when duty calls. During the events of Divine Flame, she is the one who alerts the Golden Knight Garo and the Stronghold Knight Gaia to the disappearance of the Obsidian Knight and two other knights who were sent to investigate. Her motivations are often inscrutable due to her secretive nature, but her actions are ultimately geared toward the preservation of the Makai Order and the defeat of Horrors. She is willing to take significant personal risks to achieve this goal, as demonstrated when she uses her own body as a medium to temporarily summon the fallen Silver Knight Zoro back from the dead, an act that ties her physical state to his and drains her own health.
Her key relationships are primarily functional, acting as a dispatcher to the knights. She has a more direct and personal interaction with the older generation, such as the Silver Knight Germán Luís, whose resurrection she facilitated. In contrast, by the era of Vanishing Line, she maintains a very distant relationship with the newer Golden Knight, Sword, choosing to communicate with him through an intermediary waitress named Chiaki rather than speaking to him face-to-face. She did, however, speak to him directly once in his past to inform him of a clue regarding a tragedy he suffered and to prophesy that he would become a great knight.
Regarding her development, Garm remains a consistently ancient and powerful being, but her behavior shifts towards greater indolence and detachment over time. While she was more directly involved in the affairs of Valiante, by the modern era of Russell City she has delegated almost all direct communication to others. Her notable abilities include her longevity, her transformation into a human-like guise that belies a monstrous true form, and her esoteric powers as a Watch Dog. This includes the ability to act as a spiritual medium, as shown when she anchored Germán's soul to her own body, allowing him to exist and fight in the physical world despite being dead.
