TV-Series
Description
Miō Ootori is a main character in the series and serves as the president of the Survival Game Club at Aogiri Academy. She is a third-year high school student who is eighteen years old, having been held back a year due to misconduct. She comes from a wealthy family and is widely admired at school for her beauty and charismatic presence. Her appearance is distinctive: she has wavy, waist‑length purple hair with bangs that cover her left eye, and purple eyes.
Her personality is a blend of regal confidence and unpredictable eccentricity. She is often calm and collected on the surface, but she frequently instigates the most absurd and dangerous situations the club finds itself in. She lacks common sense in many everyday matters and is notably forgetful, which adds to her comedic role. Despite her air of elegance, she is not above using underhanded tactics to get what she wants, such as drugging the protagonist Momoka Sonokawa to force her into joining the club. Her motivations are primarily driven by her enjoyment of survival games and her desire to build the club into something memorable, though she often pursues this in reckless and self‑serving ways.
Within the story, Miō Ootori is the catalyst for much of the series’ conflict and comedy. She notices Momoka’s natural talent with airsoft pistols during their first encounter and decides to recruit her by any means necessary. As club president, she leads the members through training sessions, absurd missions, and chaotic social situations. Her role is that of an eccentric leader who drives the plot forward while remaining an outwardly composed figurehead. She functions as both a mentor and a foil to Momoka, recognizing the darker side of Momoka’s personality early on and often relying on her to handle difficult opponents.
Her key relationships include Momoka Sonokawa, whom she forcibly inducts and later comes to respect as a ruthless strategist; Urara Kasugano, who is obsessively devoted to Miō but whose affections are not reciprocated; Maya Kyōdō and Kayo Gōtokuji, who follow her leadership with varying degrees of exasperation and loyalty. She also clashes with the student council president Yayoi Isurugi, who tries to dissolve the club but repeatedly fails. Miō’s relationship with the club’s pet platypus Platy is mostly one of casual ownership, treating it as a mascot.
In terms of development, Miō Ootori remains largely a static character throughout the series. She does not undergo a deep emotional arc; instead, she consistently serves as the charismatic, sometimes irresponsible, and always entertaining center of the club’s antics. Her status as a retainer adds a layer of mystery to her academic life, but it does not lead to significant personal growth. She is also revealed to be the only member old enough to apply for certain licenses, which occasionally gives her a practical advantage in their games.
Her notable abilities lie in her exceptional skill with firearms, particularly her signature dual Desert Eagle pistols, which she wields with accuracy and flair during survival games. She is a competent combatant and a natural leader, able to command the attention and obedience of her club members even when her plans are patently ridiculous. Her wealth also provides the club with high‑quality equipment and resources. Beyond physical prowess, she possesses a sharp intuition about people, enabling her to recognize Momoka’s hidden potential and manipulate situations to her benefit.
