TV-Series
Description
Mitsuya Maeno is an editor working for the shōjo manga magazine Monthly Girls' Romance. He is twenty-seven years old and stands 176 centimeters tall, with gray hair and yellow eyes. He was the previous editor assigned to Umetarou Nozaki, the series’ protagonist and a secret manga artist, and later becomes the current editor of Yukari Miyako, another manga artist and Nozaki’s neighbor. Maeno is also a former classmate of Ken Miyamae, Nozaki’s current editor, having attended high school together.

Maeno’s defining personality trait is his narcissism. He is extremely self-absorbed, frequently taking selfies and posting them on his personal blog, and he dresses in trendy, fashionable clothing that he believes makes him look appealing. He is also irresponsible in his work habits, often ignoring deadlines or failing to provide proper feedback, which frustrates both his colleagues and the artists he manages. Despite his good looks, he lacks self-awareness and can be oblivious to how his behavior affects others. He has a fondness for cute characters, particularly tanuki (raccoon dogs), and his hobbies include attending social mixers, drinking at parties, and reading gravure magazines.

His primary motivation appears to be his own enjoyment and social life rather than professional diligence. He enjoys being seen as attractive and popular, and he prioritizes his personal pleasures over his editorial responsibilities. His role in the story is that of a supporting character who serves as a source of comic relief through his self-centered antics and his contrast with the more competent and serious Ken Miyamae. He is also a contrast to Nozaki, who is oblivious to romance in real life but dedicated to his craft, while Maeno is oblivious to his own unprofessionalism.

Key relationships include his past working relationship with Umetarou Nozaki, whom he used to edit; Nozaki views him with mild exasperation and contrasts him unfavorably with the reliable Ken Miyamae. His current editor relationship is with Yukari Miyako, who is frustrated by his lack of assistance. He has a long-standing acquaintance with Ken Miyamae, and the two seem to have an understanding of each other from their high school days, though Maeno’s carefree attitude often clashes with Miyamae’s efficiency.

In terms of character development, Maeno remains fairly static throughout the series. He does not undergo any significant personal growth or change; he continues to be the same narcissistic, irresponsible editor from his introduction onward. His notable abilities are not in editorial skill but in maintaining his trendy appearance and social lifestyle. He has no special talents that contribute positively to the story’s progression; rather, his presence highlights the quirks and challenges of the manga industry through incompetence and vanity.
