Description
Mink is a main character from the visual novel and anime series DRAMAtical Murder. He is the leader of a Ribsteez group called Scratch, which is composed of former prison inmates. Standing at 189 centimeters tall, Mink is the tallest and largest among the main characters, and his imposing physical presence is frequently noted by others. He has a well-built body, with his right arm being particularly muscular, and he wears a black shirt with a torn right sleeve under a military-style gradient coat. His hair is long, brown, and styled in dreadlocks that are pulled back into a ponytail, with native beads and pink feathers woven into the front strands. His most distinguishing feature is a pink headband that covers his forehead, bearing a pin on the lower left side. He has blue-green eyes, though his true eye color is later revealed to be gold, and he is often seen holding a long pipe. His AllMate, which he addresses simply as Tori or Hey, You, Bird, is a pink Major Mitchell's Cockatoo with a voice that contrasts with his own deep and baritone tone.
Mink hails from a Native American tribe that cultivated special herbs capable of influencing a person's body odor to induce a sense of peace. The powerful Toue Konzern, mistaking this effect for mind control, slaughtered Mink's entire tribe, including his family and friends, and burned down his village in an attempt to obtain the herbs. Mink was captured along with a few survivors and brought to the island of Midorijima, where they were subjected to experimentation. He eventually escaped from imprisonment and began plotting his revenge against Toue. This traumatic past is the central force driving his actions and personality.
Initially, Mink is presented as cold, heartless, and apathetic towards the well-being of others. He is merciless to those who defy him, and he uses violence freely as a means to achieve his goals. His primary motivation is to destroy Toue, and he will employ any method necessary to accomplish that objective. He views the protagonist, Aoba Seragaki, as a tool to reach Toue due to Aoba's unique ability called Scrap, which allows him to control or destroy others' consciousness through his voice. Mink kidnaps Aoba and subjects him to physical and psychological abuse in order to force the emergence of Aoba's more dangerous personality, known as Sly Blue, which is the manifestation of the Scrap ability.
His role in the story is that of an antagonist-turned-ally, and his route in the game explores the intense and violent dynamic between him and Aoba. Throughout his narrative, Mink maintains his position as the leader of Scratch, keeping his distance from his own group members despite their shared goal. His personality begins to shift only after he encounters Aoba's inner desire, an entity that provokes genuine fear in him. From that point onward, Mink becomes slightly more communicative and less overtly hostile, though he retains his authoritative and controlling demeanor.
In terms of key relationships, his connection with Aoba is central. It is built on coercion and violence, with Mink using force to extract Scrap from Aoba. Later, elements of care and protection emerge, though these are intertwined with continued aggression. His relationship with his AllMate, Tori, is notably casual, as he never gives the bird a proper name. His connection to the members of Scratch is one of a commander to subordinates, maintained through discipline and fear.
His development is largely tied to his confrontation with his past trauma and his evolving understanding of Aoba. While he begins as a single-minded avenger who sees people as tools, his experiences force him to confront his own emotions and vulnerabilities. In different endings, this development culminates in either a continuation of his destructive path or a partial softening that allows for a different future.
Notable abilities include his physical strength and combat prowess, as well as his leadership and tactical skills as the head of a criminal group. He is ambidextrous, and his deep, steady voice is a tool for command. His primary ability in the context of the story, however, is his sheer willpower and determination, which drives him to pursue his revenge without hesitation.
