Description
Joker serves as the ringleader of the Noah's Ark Circus and plays the role of a jovial master of ceremonies, always appearing cheerful and reliable to entertain the audience. His physical appearance is striking and unconventional, featuring long red hair with bleached tips, purple eyes, and distinctive blue makeup that paints a teardrop beneath one eye. Multiple piercings adorn both of his ears, and he wears a flamboyant circus outfit consisting of a large yellow bow, a purple cape trimmed with gold, a black and white checkered shirt, and long boots. The most notable aspect of his appearance is his right arm, which is missing and replaced by a skeletal prosthetic hand that conceals a hidden dagger within the forearm.

Behind his flamboyant and silly exterior lies a much more serious and guarded individual. Joker rarely shows his true emotions to others, maintaining a facade of lightheartedness while carrying considerable inner turmoil. He demonstrates deep care and protectiveness toward the other members of the circus, whom he considers his family. His background explains much of his loyalty and desperation. Alongside other first-tier circus members like Beast and Dagger, Joker lived as a street child in the gutters of London's East End, a place he described as where every discarded person ended up. He was born to a prostitute mother named Karen Taylor, who abandoned him for unknown reasons, and he lost his right arm at some unspecified point in his early life.

The turning point in Joker's life came when Baron Kelvin discovered the group of disabled street children and took them into his manor. Joker described this period as heaven, and out of deep gratitude, he began referring to Kelvin as Father. After some time, the group decided to form a circus, with Joker assigning stage names to everyone, including himself. His true name remains unknown, and even the Grim Reapers possess no record of his birth identity. Joker's primary motivation throughout the Noah's Ark Circus arc is the protection of his found family and the children at the Renbourn orphanage, whom he believes Kelvin is helping. He follows Baron Kelvin's orders, no matter how abhorrent he finds them, because he thinks this obedience will keep his brothers and sisters safe. Tragically, the orphanage had already been destroyed by Kelvin, and Joker never had a real chance to save anyone, a fact hidden from him by the Baron.

His role in the story places him as a secondary antagonist, leading the circus that is kidnapping children across Britain on Kelvin's orders. When Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis infiltrate the Noah's Ark Circus to investigate the disappearances, Joker becomes suspicious of them and serves as their host at the Baron's manor. He personally welcomes them, introduces them to Kelvin, and is forced to participate in increasingly horrific acts to entertain the Baron, including a grotesque performance using kidnapped children that results in their gruesome deaths. Joker is visibly disturbed by these events, revealing the conflict between his loyalty to Kelvin and his basic human decency.

Joker shares significant relationships with several characters. He is deeply bonded with Beast, who harbors romantic feelings for him, though he seems unable or unwilling to reciprocate due to his dedication to his mission. He also cares for Dagger and Jumbo as fellow circus members. His relationship with Baron Kelvin is one of manipulated loyalty, where Joker serves as both circus leader and the Baron's butler, carrying out terrible orders under the false belief that he is protecting his family. When Doctor, the creator of their prosthetics, reveals that the limbs were made from the bones of murdered children, Joker is overcome with disgust and horror, realizing the true extent of the evil he has been serving.

In terms of development, Joker experiences a tragic arc from a seemingly joyful performer to a desperate man trying to protect those he loves, only to learn that his efforts were futile and built upon lies. His combat capability primarily involves a sword, along with the hidden dagger in his prosthetic arm, which he attempts to use against Sebastian during the confrontation at Kelvin's manor. Sebastian severs his left arm, leaving him unable to fight, and Joker ultimately dies from blood loss on February 9, 1889, at the age of twenty-five, wishing only that his fellow circus members might somehow survive the night's events. His final moments are marked by despair as he learns the truth about the prosthetics, realizing he was never more than a tool in a much darker scheme.
