TV-Series
Description
Miwa Yamamura is a supporting character from Barakamon. She is a middle school student, the only daughter of a liquor seller, and resides on the Goto Islands where the series takes place. She is introduced early in the story as a close friend of Tamako Arai and an acquaintance of the young calligrapher Seishu Handa, who has moved to the island for a retreat.
Miwa has a boyish and energetic personality, often described as a tomboy. She is brash, blunt, and speaks her mind without hesitation, frequently saying whatever she is thinking. Her straightforward nature leads her to tease and prank Seishu Handa regularly, with her actions sometimes bordering on bullying. Despite her rough exterior, she is not malicious; her teasing is a reflection of her playful and spirited character. She is also active and enjoys hands-on, physical activities, including a love for wrestling and martial arts, which suit her energetic temperament.
Within the story, Miwa serves as one of the local children who act as foils to the more serious and uptight Seishu Handa. Her role is to pull him into the community's daily life and shenanigans, helping him loosen up and connect with the island's culture. She is part of a trio of friends that includes Tamako and the young girl Naru Kotoishi, with Miwa often taking on a leadership role among them due to her confidence and maturity compared to her peers.
Her key relationships include her best friend Tamako Arai, with whom she is frequently seen around the island. She also shares a close bond with Naru, acting as an older sister figure. Her most prominent dynamic is with Seishu Handa, whom she affectionately torments but also grows to respect over time through their interactions.
In terms of development, Miwa matures gradually through her exposure to Handa's dedication to his art and his personal growth. She gains a deeper understanding of herself and her place in the world, becoming more comfortable in her own skin as she observes his journey. Her notable abilities are not supernatural or artistic; instead, they lie in her social skills, her physical energy, and her natural ability to lead her small group of friends in their everyday adventures.
