TV-Series
Description
Narugami is the human-world identity of Thor, the Norse god of thunder, within the story. He appears as a teenage boy with short brown hair and brown eyes, attending the same high school as Mayura Daidouji. Outwardly, he is a very poor student who constantly works a wide variety of part-time jobs to support himself. This financial struggle is a recurring comedic element in the series.

His true background is that he was sent from the realm of the gods by Odin with the mission to kill Loki, the exiled god of mischief. In the manga version, Narugami initially has no memory of this assignment, while in the anime he consciously chooses not to carry it out because he sees no reason to kill Loki. Because he has forgotten how to return to the divine realm, he remains stranded on Earth and must adapt to a mundane human life.

Narugami’s personality is generally easygoing and somewhat reluctant when it comes to divine duties. He displays a strong sense of practicality and resignation, taking his various jobs in stride despite their low pay. He has a moral core that prevents him from blindly following orders, as shown by his refusal to assassinate Loki. Over the course of the series, his role shifts from a potential enemy to an uneasy ally of Loki, with his story blending comedy with genuine moments of loyalty and inner conflict over his original mission.

Key relationships include his complicated association with Loki, whom he was meant to kill but instead becomes a reluctant companion. He is a classmate of Mayura Daidouji and interacts with her in the high school setting. He also has a notable episode titled The Tale of Narugami’s Devotion, which involves him falling in love with a girl whose true nature is tied to the Norns’ schemes, showing a romantic side to his character.

His most notable ability is his possession of Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, which he carries disguised as a wooden sword. When needed, he can use it to access his divine thunder powers. Despite his godly identity, he often appears as an ordinary, struggling teenager, and his development involves gradually integrating into the human world while maintaining his divine heritage.
