ONA
Description
Queen Metalia, sometimes romanized as Metallia, is the true mastermind behind the Dark Kingdom in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal. She is a malignant, amorphous being of pure dark energy, lacking a fixed physical form and appearing as a shifting, purple-black shadow with glowing eyes and a bright diamond-shaped mark on her forehead. Her origins trace back to the distant past, where she was born from radioactive forces within the sun before descending to Earth. She is later revealed to be the first manifestation of Chaos, the primordial force of evil that serves as the ultimate antagonist across the entire Sailor Moon mythos.

Metallia's core motivation is an insatiable hunger for energy and a desire to spread darkness across the world. She feeds on human life force and seeks to obtain the Silver Crystal, a relic of immense power that could free her from her imprisonment and allow her to consume the Earth and eventually the cosmos. Her personality is malignant and predatory, representing a faceless, amoral force of destruction rather than a character with complex emotions or personal grudges. She speaks rarely and when she does, her words are cold and commanding.

In the story, Metallia is the hidden leader of the Dark Kingdom, operating behind Queen Beryl. During the age of the Silver Millennium, she descended to Earth and corrupted the human sorceress Beryl by preying on her unrequited love for Prince Endymion and her jealousy of Princess Serenity. Under Metallia's influence, Beryl turned the people of Earth against the Moon Kingdom, sparking a war that ended with the destruction of both civilizations. After the conflict, Queen Serenity sealed Metallia at the North Pole in a state of suspended animation, but the seal was weakened by Serenity's own grief. In the present day, a reincarnated Beryl discovered Metallia at the D-Point in the Arctic, accidentally releasing her. Metallia restored Beryl's memories and granted her the power to resurrect the Four Kings of Heaven, tasking her with collecting life energy and locating the Silver Crystal to break the seal completely.

Metallia's key relationships are defined by manipulation and parasitism. She uses Queen Beryl as her primary servant and vessel, corrupting her ambition and feeding on the energy Beryl collects. When Beryl is fatally wounded in the final battle, Metallia abandons her and instead takes possession of the reincarnated Endymion, turning him into a host called Metallia Endymion. Through this possessed form, she disposes of Beryl and attacks the Sailor Guardians directly. Her relationship with Sailor Moon is one of pure opposition: Metallia is the dark counterpart to the light represented by the Moon Princess and the Silver Crystal. She absorbs both Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask into her body during the climax, but this act ultimately leads to her downfall.

Metallia's development across the story is tied to her gradual release from the seal. She begins as a contained but growing threat, slowly regaining strength through the energy gathered by the Dark Kingdom. As the plot progresses, her influence expands, causing sunspots and darkness to spread over the Earth. In the final confrontation, she achieves near-complete freedom and rises as a towering, all-consuming force. However, inside her form, Usagi Tsukino awakens to her full power as Princess Serenity and activates the Silver Crystal's ultimate potential, allowing her to destroy Metallia once and for all. The defeat is permanent within the context of the first story arc, though the essence of Chaos that Metallia represented continues to appear in later villains.

Notable abilities include amorphously shifting her form to absorb other beings and energy, possession of human hosts, projection of overwhelming dark energy, and the power to corrupt the hearts of vulnerable individuals. She is an energy-based life form that grows stronger by consuming more power, and her presence alone can suffocate life from the surrounding environment. The only known weakness is the mark on her forehead, which must be struck by the full power of the Silver Crystal to defeat her. As the first incarnation of Chaos, she represents the foundational evil from which all subsequent major antagonists in the series are descended.
