Description
Bolic is a minor antagonist introduced as a spy working directly for Prime Minister Honest, the corrupt power behind the Empire's throne. His official cover is that of a high-ranking official within the Path of Peace, a religious organization that opposes the Empire's tyranny. In truth, his mission is to assassinate the leader of the Path of Peace from within and seize control of the group, allowing the Empire to manipulate the religion for its own political purposes.
In terms of personality, Bolic is depicted as a deeply hedonistic and depraved individual. While he is described as clever and curious—traits that allowed him to infiltrate the Path of Peace successfully—his core motivation is the pursuit of pleasure. He shamelessly abuses the authority of his false position to indulge his darkest desires, using drugs to addict members of the Path of Peace under the pretense of bringing them closer to their god. After addicting them, he uses these victims as slaves and objects for his own gratification. Despite his cruelty toward the vulnerable, Bolic is also shown to be a coward who relies heavily on powerful bodyguards for protection and panics when his safety is compromised.
Bolic's role in the story is primarily as an assassination target for the revolutionary team Night Raid. Since the Path of Peace is a crucial ally to the Revolutionary Army, eliminating the Imperial spy who has infiltrated its leadership is a high-priority mission. He is first seen at a reception party for the Jaegers, the Empire's elite police force, where he introduces his personal bodyguards, the Four Rakshasa Demons. His key relationships are primarily utilitarian; he surrounds himself with powerful fighters like the demons, as well as Kurome and her puppet Natala, to ensure his safety while he continues his corrupt activities.
Bolic does not undergo any significant character development, serving instead as a purely villainous figure whose death marks a notable event in the plot. His demise occurs during Night Raid's assault on the church of the Path of Peace. The circumstances of his death differ between the original manga and the anime adaptation. In the manga, after his bodyguards are defeated and he believes himself secure following Esdeath's intervention, he attempts to assault the injured Leone. As he tries to flee, Leone grabs his leg, allowing Akame to kill him instantly with her cursed Teigu, Murasame. In the anime, Bolic's death is significantly altered; he ignores a warning from Esdeath and tries to flee the battle with an associate named Holimaca. He is ambushed by Akame and Lubbock, and Lubbock kills him by strangling him with the wire of his Teigu, Cross Tail.
Physically, Bolic is a tall and muscular middle-aged man with short, spiky half-bald brown hair, brown eyes, and a pointed beard. His appearance is marked by the white and red robes of a high-ranking Path of Peace official, and he wears a large white hat bearing the organization's symbol. He does not possess any notable personal combat abilities or Teigu of his own, relying entirely on his cunning and the protection of stronger fighters to survive.
