Description
Borick is a minor antagonist in Akame ga KILL! who serves as a spy for the Empire's Prime Minister Honest. He infiltrates a pacifist religious organization known as the Path of Peace, where he poses as a high-ranking adviser to the group's founder. His true objective is to assassinate the leader of the Path of Peace and take control of the organization, allowing the Empire to manipulate the religion for its own corrupt purposes.
Borick is a middle-aged man with a clever and calculating mind, but his defining traits are his profound hedonism and cruelty. He cares only for personal pleasure and abuses his position to satisfy his darkest impulses. He uses drugs to addict members of the Path of Peace, falsely claiming that the substances will bring them closer to their deity. In reality, this is a method to turn followers into compliant slaves and sex toys for his amusement. He shows no remorse for his actions and appears to derive satisfaction from the suffering of others.
Within the story, Borick operates from within the Path of Peace's church, where he feels secure due to the protection he receives. His personal bodyguards are the Four Rakshasa Demons, a group of highly skilled warriors who serve as his last line of defense. He also receives additional protection from Kurome, a member of the Jaegers, and her Teigu Yatsufusa, which allows her to summon the corpses of her previous victims as puppets.
Borick's role in the plot culminates during Night Raid's assault on the Path of Peace's church. Believing himself to be safe after Esdeath defeats the main force of the attacking rebels, Borick attempts to take advantage of the situation by targeting the injured Leone. His plan fails when Leone grabs him by the leg to prevent his escape, and Akame arrives to deliver the killing blow with her cursed sword Murasame.
The character's death differs between the original manga and the anime adaptation. In the manga, he is slain directly by Akame as described above. In the anime, Borick ignores Esdeath's warnings and attempts to flee with an associate named Holimaca. He is ambushed by Akame and Lubbock, and Lubbock kills him by hanging him with his Cross Tail threads. Despite these differences, both versions conclude with Borick meeting his end due to his own arrogance and corrupt nature.
Borick maintains notable relationships with several key characters. He works under Prime Minister Honest as a spy, and he interacts with members of the Jaegers, particularly Esdeath and Kurome, when they are assigned to protect him. His personal guards, the Four Rakshasa Demons, demonstrate fierce loyalty to him, though their skills ultimately prove insufficient to save him. Regarding abilities, Borick does not possess any notable combat skills, Imperial Arms, or Shingu. He relies entirely on his bodyguards and allies for protection, as his strengths lie in deception, manipulation, and political scheming rather than direct confrontation.
