Cast aside when Rubinsky abandoned his mother for a lucrative political alliance, he grew up in hardship before ascending to become his father’s secretary and chief strategist, steering Fezzan’s clandestine manipulation of the Galactic Empire and Free Planets Alliance to secure economic supremacy.

Driven by ambition and intellectual arrogance, Kesserling covertly conspired to usurp Rubinsky, believing himself destined to rule Fezzan. His father, aware of his son’s treachery, exploited these schemes to further his own ends. Kesserling spearheaded pivotal operations: framing Admiral Yang Wen-li for treason to fracture Alliance unity, orchestrating the kidnapping of child emperor Erwin Josef II to inflame imperial-alliance hostilities, and prolonging galactic warfare to cement Fezzan’s profit-driven dominance.

His tactics involved alliances with exiled Imperial nobles and Terraist cultists, enforcing compliance through blackmail and intimidation. Within the Alliance, he exploited political fractures by manipulating figures like Commissioner Henslow to isolate Yang. Overconfidence blinded him to Rubinsky’s surveillance, culminating in a doomed assassination attempt. Dominique Saint-Pierré, secretly loyal to Rubinsky, betrayed him during the confrontation, enabling Rubinsky’s guards to execute him.

Kesserling’s death catalyzed Fezzan’s political unraveling, with Rubinsky later lamenting the necessity of his son’s demise. Though his plots failed, Kesserling’s maneuvers critically shaped Fezzan’s trajectory, hastening its annexation by Reinhard von Lohengramm.
