Description
Alexander Bucock, occasionally recorded as Alexandre Bewcock, rose from a Free Planets Alliance common soldier to a senior Star Fleet commander. Born in 726 UC, he achieved every rank through merit over four decades, his advancement slowed by his absence of academy credentials and rejection of political maneuvering. His early service included the Second Battle of Tiamat at age 19; as a petty officer aboard the battleship *Shah Abbas*, he displayed notable calm under fire.

By 788 UC, he held the rank of commodore commanding the Marovia Starzone, later ascending to rear admiral and vice admiral. Leading the Alliance's 5th Fleet by 794 UC, he was regarded among the galaxy's most seasoned admirals. During the Third Battle of Tiamat in 795 UC, as senior admiral, he coordinated the 10th Fleet to shield the retreating, insubordinate 11th Fleet after its commander defied withdrawal orders, halting further Imperial pursuit.

In the Alliance's invasion of Imperial territory, Bucock heeded Yang Wen-li's warning and withdrew his fleet when supply lines were severed. Retreating through the Bilrost starzone, his forces endured roughly 30% losses under Imperial admiral Oskar von Reuenthal's pursuit. Commanding the combined Alliance fleet at the Battle of Rantemario during the Imperial counter-invasion, he used the starzone's gravity well to inflict severe damage on Imperial forces, yet his own fleet suffered catastrophic losses and routed. Accepting defeat, he attempted suicide to atone for his subordinates' deaths but was stopped by an aide who insisted his survival was essential to protect his men from postwar reprisals.

After the Alliance's unconditional surrender in 799 UC, Bucock fiercely opposed capitulation during government deliberations with Imperial representatives. He argued that even if Alliance leaders perished, their sacrifice could grant Yang Wen-li time to strike Reinhard von Lohengramm. Threatening to kill Alliance leader Job Trunicht to prevent surrender, he was arrested by Terraist Church soldiers loyal to Trunicht. Retired post-war under Reinhard's amnesty brokered by Yang, he lived under Imperial watch. Compelled from retirement during renewed Imperial conflict, he commanded one final defense.

He died in combat during the Battle of Marr-Adetta Starzone in 800 UC after inflicting 25,000 casualties on the Imperial fleet. Before his death, he shared a toast with Reinhard via communication, saluting democracy. Posthumously, Reinhard ordered every Imperial soldier to salute Bucock and performed a libation in his honor upon reaching Heinessen.

Bucock upheld unwavering democratic principles, declaring that soldiers in a republic must never exercise political power off the battlefield and warning military autonomy risked creating "a nation within a nation." He lamented the Alliance's decline, stating: "The collapse of a democracy is the sin of every citizen," condemning opportunistic politicians, adventurist soldiers, and apathetic citizens equally. He believed the Alliance should "die as a democracy rather than become a dictatorship to survive."
