TV-Series
Description
Heito Isaku is a pilot recruited by the IX organization from a psychiatric detention facility, carrying the dark history of having murdered his own family. Before his arrival at Kukonichi Academy, his photograph had already been seen by other selected students. His background stems from a traumatic childhood in the Lightless Realm, where he was originally the quietest and most fearful child, always carrying a teddy bear for comfort, but after escaping, his memories were erased and serious psychological issues manifested.
His personality is defined by profound psychological instability and sadistic cruelty. Heito finds gratification in witnessing the terror of others and is described as a psychopath who appears to enjoy feeling abnormally strong emotions of fear. When first introduced, he is shown brutally attacking and strangling a guard who came to his cell, laughing throughout the act and rhetorically asking why he is not allowed to laugh. He embraces his freedom upon escaping and speaks of smelling terror in the air. Despite his obvious mental disturbances, he synchronizes exceptionally well with Emiru Yabusaki, their synchronization said to be the strongest of the entire group.
Heito's primary motivation revolves around his pathological obsession with Emiru. He is able to communicate with her through their minds and displays strong possessiveness, calling her his girl or his partner. He feels safe when surrounded by her intense emotions of terror and fear, which he seems to feed upon. However, beneath this disturbing fixation lies a more complex attachment, as he is later shown to be genuinely shocked and traumatized when Emiru transforms into an Admonition. He is the first to vocalize her death and becomes catatonic afterward, refusing to believe she has left him.
In the story, Heito serves as one of the selected students piloting MA-Vess units to battle the Admonitions. His role is initially as an outcast and the last to join the group, with other team members openly fearing him due to his known crimes and manic tendencies. He is recruited directly from a psychiatric facility, and his presence brings an element of unpredictability and danger to the team dynamic. He pilots the MA-Vess known as Sable, also referred to as the Argent or the Reaper in some contexts. He possesses the second highest resonance among the children after Akashi.
His most significant relationship is with Emiru Yabusaki, his designated link or connector. Their mental connection is exceptionally strong, allowing telepathic communication. Heito also displays noticeable jealousy toward Akashi Saginuma, the main protagonist, but is constrained from harming him by Emiru's will. After Emiru's necrometalicized body is contained within the MA-Vess Sable, Heito is overjoyed to have her back and pilots this vessel, though he struggles to control it when attempting to harm Akashi, suggesting that Emiru inside will not tolerate such actions. Regarding his relationship with the other team members, he is largely an isolated figure feared for his brutality and mania.
Heito undergoes significant development throughout the narrative. Following Emiru's transformation into an Admonition and her subsequent death, his already fractured psyche collapses entirely, giving rise to a frenzied fixation on her soul. He enters a catatonic state before being drawn to the MA-Vess containing her body. After the Lightless Realm disappears, Heito begins to recover, with the amount of necrometal in his body decreasing. Notably, unlike other victims who were helped by living people during their recovery, Heito is aided by the teddy bear he left behind in the Lightless Realm.
In terms of notable abilities, Heito demonstrates a high resonance potential second only to Akashi. He has the ability to quickly discern the true motives behind people's behavior and can easily enter into mental connections with others. As a pilot, he shows the capacity to control a MA-Vess, specifically Sable, though control can be influenced by Emiru's lingering will. He is also physically dangerous, having shown the capability to kill with a knife and his bare hands.
