TV-Series
Description
Ino Hatsuse is an elderly Werebeast who serves as a key political figure for the Eastern Federation, acting as its vice-ambassador and foreign minister to the kingdom of Elchea. At ninety-eight years old, he has long white hair, wolf-like ears and a tail, and typically wears traditional kimono and round glasses, presenting an appearance that conveys wisdom and experience.
His outward demeanor is one of formality and respect, but this mask often slips when dealing with adversaries, revealing a sharp tongue and a tendency to use harsh or contemptuous language. Initially, he looks down upon humanity, considering them weak, which colors his first impressions of the Imanity siblings Sora and Shiro. However, he is consistently left astonished and unnerved by Sora's cunning and intricate strategies, often finding himself outmaneuvered in their verbal and political sparring matches. His relationship with Sora is particularly volatile and combative, frequently erupting into arguments that define their rivalry.
Despite his gruff exterior, Ino is profoundly devoted to his family, most notably his granddaughter, Izuna Hatsuse. He serves as her primary guardian, advisor, and protector, becoming visibly annoyed or jealous whenever Sora and Shiro interact with her closely, such as when they stroke her tail. This loyalty extends to his political career; he has been a steadfast supporter of the Shrine Maiden since the Eastern Federation's early days, and his skills are highly trusted by her.
Within the story, Ino initially represents the Eastern Federation in diplomatic dealings and high-stakes games. He is one of the few Werebeasts who possesses the rare and powerful Blood Destruction ability, which allows for a temporary but extreme enhancement of physical capabilities at great risk to the user. During official games, he typically operates from the outside, acting as a strategist and relaying crucial information to Izuna, who acts as his primary player. After the Werebeasts lose a critical game against Sora and Shiro, he becomes their subordinate, though his personal animosity and rivalry with Sora persist.
Ino undergoes notable development in his views regarding humanity. Through his forced collaboration with Sora, Shiro, and other humans like Stephanie Dola, he is forced to revise his initial contempt and eventually comes to genuinely acknowledge their talents and value. A peculiar aspect of his character is his romantic life; he reportedly has thirty wives. This is humorously highlighted during a dating game with the Flügel Lyra, where he immediately prostrates himself and aggressively presses for intimacy, shocking everyone with his unabashed desperation. Although he is rejected, his persistent resolve even in the face of humiliation earns him a begrudging respect from Sora.
