Description
Midler is a secondary antagonist in the Stardust Crusaders story arc, serving as the last assassin hired by DIO that the Joestar group faces before reaching Egypt. She is a Stand user, and her Stand is named High Priestess, a long-range, shapeshifting entity that can assimilate any metal or mineral and take the form of any inanimate object made of those materials. Midler is already known among Stand users—Muhammad Avdol recognizes her by reputation as a famous and dangerous opponent.
Her role in the story is brief but significant. She ambushes the group while they travel aboard a submarine in the Red Sea, having infiltrated the vessel by allowing High Priestess to disguise itself as parts of the submarine, including equipment, food, and other metallic fixtures. Midler communicates through her Stand, taunting the heroes and attacking them in a series of hit-and-run assaults designed to confuse and trap them. She eventually reveals High Priestess in its true form, a grotesque troll-like creature with teeth that she claims are harder than diamond, and she attempts to crush Jotaro Kujo inside the Stand’s mouth. Jotaro counters with Star Platinum, punching out the Stand’s teeth and defeating Midler. After the battle, Jean Pierre Polnareff finds Midler’s convulsing body but remarks that her face is now toothless, implying she was left disfigured.
In terms of personality, Midler is cunning and enjoys psychological warfare, using her Stand’s ability to hide and strike from unexpected angles. She seems confident in her power and is dedicated to carrying out DIO’s orders, though her personal motivations beyond loyalty or payment are not explored. She does not undergo any character development or redemption; her encounter is a straightforward obstacle on the heroes’ journey.
Her notable ability lies entirely in High Priestess’s versatility. The Stand can mimic any metal or mineral object with perfect fidelity, allowing Midler to create traps, disguise attacks as harmless items, and change its shape at will. The Stand has a long effective range, enabling Midler to stay hidden while controlling the battlefield. However, High Priestess has a finite physical form; once its diamond-hard teeth are broken by sufficient force, the Stand is rendered powerless, and Midler herself is incapacitated. Midler’s appearance is characterized by long brown hair, tanned skin, and dancer-like clothing, though her eyes are never clearly shown. She has no significant relationships with other characters aside from her role as one of DIO’s many hired assassins.
