Description
Boo, often referred to as Kid Buu or Pure Majin Boo, represents the original and most primal form of the magical entity Majin Boo. This character is a central antagonist in the final story arc of Dragon Ball Z Kai. His background is that of an ancient, primordial force of destruction who has existed since time immemorial. Created or summoned by the evil wizard Bibidi, he was used to rampage across the universe, destroying countless worlds and civilizations. His reign of terror led him to confront the five Kaioshin, the Supreme Gods of the universe. In this devastating conflict, Boo killed two of the Kaioshin, absorbed another known as the South Kaioshin, and then absorbed the gentle and good-hearted Grand Kaioshin. This final absorption significantly altered his personality and power, suppressing his pure evil nature and transforming him into the rotund, more childlike Majin Boo that first appears in the series. After being sealed away for millions of years, the various influences inside him would eventually be stripped away, leading to his reversion to this original, unaltered state.
In terms of personality, this form of Boo is the most dangerous and malevolent of all his incarnations. He is a pure sociopath, acting on nothing but destructive impulse and a complete lack of empathy, remorse, or reason. Unlike his later, fatter form who could be befriended, Pure Boo is utterly chaotic and uncontrollable. He possesses a sadistic, playful cruelty, treating the annihilation of planets and the torment of his opponents as a game. His behavior is highly unpredictable and childlike, but this is the capriciousness of a monster, not an innocent. He mocks his enemies, laughs in the face of danger, and destroys without a single thought for consequence, caring only for his own entertainment and ego. His primary motivation is the simple, uncomplicated desire to fight, destroy, and kill, with no higher goal or ambition other than to cause chaos.
The role of Pure Boo in the story is that of the final, ultimate antagonist. After the absorbed heroes are freed from within the body of Super Buu, the entity begins to destabilize and reverts through its previous forms. All the absorbed Kaioshin are purged, and what remains is this small, lean, pink-skinned creature. Despite his smaller stature compared to other forms, he is revealed to be the most dangerously unstable version, possessing power that rivals and even surpasses that of a Super Saiyan 3. He serves as the last major obstacle for the heroes, pushing Goku and Vegeta to their absolute limits. His role culminates in the final battle on the Sacred World of the Kai, where he proves to be so unrelenting that he destroys the Earth itself, forcing the final confrontation to take place on another plane entirely.
Key relationships for this character are defined by his absorption victims and his enemies. The Grand Kaioshin is the most significant figure, as his benevolent nature was the primary factor that suppressed Pure Boo's evil for millennia, creating the good-aligned Fat Boo. The South Kaioshin is the other being he absorbed, which granted him a massive, muscular form. His enemies are the remaining heroes, primarily Goku and Vegeta, who he battles with ferocious intensity. After his defeat, a unique relationship is formed when Goku wishes for him to be reincarnated as a good person. This results in the creation of a human boy named Uub, who becomes Goku’s disciple, giving Boo a final legacy beyond his destructive nature.
The development of Pure Boo is less about personal growth and more about the revelation of his true nature. Throughout the Majin Boo Saga, the rotund, seemingly childlike Boo is gradually revealed to be a corrupted form. His separation from his evil half and the subsequent absorptions create an increasingly intelligent and menacing villain in Super Buo. However, the stripping away of these layers does not create a more powerful foe; instead, it returns him to his root state. While less strategically cunning than Super Buu, this form is paradoxically more dangerous because it is completely and utterly insane. He has no inhibitions, no capacity for negotiation, and no goal other than destruction, making him the purest representation of evil in the series.
Regarding notable abilities, Pure Boo possesses all the core powers of the Majin race but amplified by his untamed nature. His most infamous ability is his incredible regeneration; he can instantly reform his body from any injury, including being blown into countless pieces, making him nearly immortal in combat. He retains the Transfiguration Beam, a technique fired from the appendage on his head that can turn any living being or object into inanimate food, such as chocolate or an egg, which he often then consumes. His body is also highly malleable, allowing him to stretch, contort, and detach parts of himself for attacks. In terms of raw power, he is exceptionally strong, fast, and durable, capable of easily overpowering most of the Z-Fighters. He demonstrates a remarkable ability to learn and mimic techniques after seeing them only once, such as the Kamehameha and Instant Transmission. His ultimate display of power is the Planet Burst, a massive energy sphere he creates with the intent to destroy entire planets, which he successfully uses to obliterate Earth.
