Description
Aska is the young daughter of the Fairy Tail wizards Alzack and Bisca Connell. Her name is a combination taken from her father's name, Alzack, and her mother's nickname, Bisca. Born in the year X791, she is one of the youngest members of the guild and quickly becomes a cherished presence within the community.
Aska has a cheerful, lively, and mischievous personality that endears her to the other members of Fairy Tail. She is often seen playing and interacting with the older wizards, and she has a particularly close bond with the guild master, Makarov, frequently riding on his shoulders and treating him like a grandfather. Despite her young age and innocent nature, she can also be surprisingly cunning and knows how to use her charms to get what she wants, such as when she uses a promise to make Natsu and Lucy follow her orders for a day. She deeply loves her parents, and a core motivation for her is to make them happy.
Aska's primary role in the story is as a non-combatant member of Fairy Tail who represents the guild's next generation and the close-knit family bonds it fosters. During the Grand Magic Games arc, she becomes an innocent target when the enemy mage Flare Corona uses her hair to take Aska hostage to gain an advantage over Lucy. This act goes unnoticed by the crowd, but Natsu hears Flare's threat and intervenes, saving Aska and allowing Lucy to fight back. In a special chapter, Aska is left in the care of Natsu and Lucy while her parents are away. She challenges Natsu to a shooting competition and, upon winning, makes him promise to do anything she says for the rest of the day. She uses this promise to make him complete a series of small jobs with her, earning enough money to buy a special Lacrima from a pawnshop. It is later revealed that this Lacrima was a precious memento from her parents' first mission together, which they had been forced to sell to afford medicine for Aska when she was a baby and gravely ill. This event highlights her family's past struggles and her desire to give back to her parents.
Beyond her bond with Makarov, her key relationships are, of course, with her parents, Alzack and Bisca. She also forms a close temporary bond with Natsu, who acts as her babysitter and protector. She is shown to be friendly with the other members of the guild, who all dote on her as a little sister or mascot. Although she is very young, Aska shows notable abilities that hint at her future potential. She has inherited her parents' talent for marksmanship, displaying surprising accuracy with a toy gun. The guild's first master, Mavis Vermilion, recognizes her potential and deliberately has her observe the battle against a dragon, stating that seeing a live dragon is a valuable experience for any wizard and suggesting that Aska could become a great mage when she grows up. In a light novel, a future version of Aska appears as a lively teenage girl who has mastered The Guns magic, the same requip-style magic used by her mother, and is said to be even more skilled than Bisca.
