Description
Antonio, also known as Jaguar Bone, is a central character in the Majin Bone series. He is a seventeen-year-old boy from Brazil who serves as one of the Earth's White Bone warriors, fighting to protect the planet from the invading Dark Bone forces. His past is marked by hardship, having grown up in the slums where he lived a poor and troubled life, resorting to theft to survive. It was during this time that he first encountered his future allies, Luke and Tyrone. His life took a definitive turn when he attempted to steal a case from Luke, an event that ultimately changed his destiny and led him to resonate with the Jaguar Bone. Before becoming a Bone Fighter, Antonio worked as a wandering street performer, a jack-of-all-trades who became skilled in various forms of labor and entertainment, including juggling and samba dancing. He is also proficient in the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, which heavily influences his fighting style.
In terms of personality, Antonio is the energetic and cheerful mood-maker of the Earth warrior team. He is outgoing and tries to befriend anyone he meets, bringing a sense of levity to the group even in serious situations. Despite his laid-back and sometimes comical demeanor, he possesses a strong sense of camaraderie and is deeply loyal to his friends. This loyalty manifests as a willingness to throw himself in front of any attack meant to harm his companions. His past experiences in the slums have given him a certain resilience and a pragmatic, sometimes cynical, view of betrayal, which he sees as a common part of life. He is also known for his flamboyant and somewhat flirtatious nature, though his advances, such as those towards Shougo's sister Chiko, are often quickly rejected.
Antonio's primary motivation is the protection of Earth and his friends. He did not originally seek out the power of the Jaguar Bone but was convinced by Luke that becoming a Bone Fighter was necessary to defend the world. His sense of purpose is strongly tied to the people he fights alongside. His role in the story is that of a supportive and dependable ally, often providing comic relief but also stepping up as a formidable fighter when the situation demands it. He was the last of the core Earth warriors to achieve Majin Kōrin, the ability to summon his respective Majin, the Majin of Wood. This event occurs in episode eighteen, where during a battle against the former Earth warriors Victor and Gregory, Antonio's resolve to protect his friends causes his Bone to resonate, allowing him and his allies to form the line and summon the Wood Majin for the first time.
Antonio has significant relationships with the other main Bone Fighters. He is particularly close to Luke and Tyrone, having known them since his days in the slums, and they are the ones who introduced him to his destiny as a warrior. He shares a unique dynamic with the younger warrior Shougo, whom he is initially tasked with watching and protecting, often in a comically persistent manner. He also has a frequently antagonistic but ultimately respectful relationship with Gilbert, as the two often clash due to their contrasting personalities. Later in the series, Antonio experiences significant character development when he finally holds a direct conversation with the spirit of the Jaguar Bone, who reveals that it was the Majin of Wood himself who chose Antonio to be its partner. This revelation leads to Antonio's power evolving, allowing him to transform into the more powerful Rare Metal Jaguar for the first time to combat a major threat from the Council of Dark Bone.
As a Bone Fighter, Antonio is the wielder of the Jaguar Bone, which is associated with the wood element. His abilities are characterized by agility and unpredictable, tricky movements derived from his capoeira training, allowing him to confound his opponents in battle. While he was the last among his peers to achieve Majin Kōrin, his power is not inferior to theirs. Upon evolving into his Rare Metal form, his strength increases dramatically, enabling him to easily overpower powerful enemies like Dark Eagle and Dark Alligator.
