Description
Principessa Kakyuu is a supporting character in the anime series Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, also known as Princess Kakyuu and in Japanese as Kakyuu Koujo, a title that roughly means fireball princess. She is the first princess of the Tankei Kingdom on the distant planet Kinmoku, a world located far beyond the solar system. Her design and naming are closely tied to the fragrant olive flower, known in Japanese as kinmokusei, and the name of her planet is itself a play on that flower. In the anime she appears as a composed royal figure with long red-orange hair, a deep red dress with a blue bodice and puffy sleeves, a black crown, and a blue flower-like ribbon at her neck.
Before the events of the season, Kinmoku was invaded and destroyed by Sailor Galaxia, who was acting under the influence of Chaos. As the planet's princess and future queen, Kakyuu was the one person the Sailor Starlights, the three Sailor Guardians of Kinmoku, were sworn to protect. When her world fell, she fled to Earth and concealed herself inside an incense burner in order to escape Galaxia and continue her search for the legendary Light of Hope, a power she believed could defeat the enemy. She was found and kept safe by Chibi Chibi, a mysterious small child who carried and guarded the burner. For most of the season, Kakyuu remains hidden in this form, fully aware that the Sailor Starlights are desperately searching for her, but unable to reveal herself too soon without endangering her mission.
Kakyuu is depicted as gentle, wise, calm, and strong-willed. She carries herself with the quiet dignity expected of a royal leader and holds deep affection for her people and her three guardians. She dislikes conflict and is peaceful by nature, showing a temperament that closely resembles that of Usagi Tsukino, with whom she forms a bond of mutual respect. Kakyuu raises a protective forcefield that is able to block Galaxia's attacks for a short time, but it is not enough to save her, and Galaxia takes her star seed, a rare and powerful essence that marks her as a being of exceptional spiritual strength. As she falls, she receives a vision revealing that Chibi Chibi is the true Light of Hope. After Sailor Moon ultimately defeats Chaos, Kakyuu is revived, and she departs into the galaxy together with the Sailor Starlights to rebuild Kinmoku and begin a new chapter for her people.
