Description
Princess Kakyuu is a royal figure from the planet Kinmoku, a world located beyond the solar system, and the ruler of the Tankei Kingdom within it. In Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, she is the princess whom the three Sailor Starlights are desperately searching for after their home world is destroyed. She is depicted with very long red-orange hair, red eyes, and a dignified appearance, wearing a deep red dress with a blue bodice, puffy sleeves, and a dark crown, with a flower-like ornament around her neck. Her design and name carry the motif of the fragrant olive, the blossom of her home world, and her name conveys the meaning of fireball princess.

Before the events of the story, Kinmoku is attacked and destroyed by Sailor Galaxia and the forces of Shadow Galactica. Princess Kakyuu manages to escape and travels to Earth, where she conceals herself inside an incense burner that emanates the scent of fragrant olives. The small child ChibiChibi finds and keeps watch over this incense burner, and in that hidden form Kakyuu remains on Earth for much of the series. Even while concealed, she is aware that the Sailor Starlights are searching for her, but she chooses not to reveal herself until the right moment.

In terms of personality, Princess Kakyuu is gentle, calm, and kind-hearted. She dislikes conflict and carries herself with quiet dignity, and she is deeply loved and respected by the Sailor Starlights, who view her as their beloved princess and leader. Her warmth and idealism have much in common with Sailor Moon, and her personal hope is for a peaceful existence free from war and suffering. In the anime, her primary motivation for coming to Earth is to hide from Sailor Galaxia and to find the legendary Light of Hope, a force she believes can save her people and oppose the destruction threatening the galaxy.

Her role in the story becomes significant in the later part of the series. She finally emerges from hiding to save Sailor Moon and the others from a black hole, and she resumes her position of leadership over the Sailor Starlights. Shortly afterward, Sailor Galaxia confronts her directly and takes her star seed. Unlike some other versions of the character, Princess Kakyuu in this anime does not transform into a Sailor Guardian; instead, she is shown to possess a true star seed, which is what makes her a target for Galaxia. Before her death, she manages to erect a protective forcefield that briefly blocks Galaxia's attacks, though it is not enough to save her. In her final moments, she receives a vision revealing that ChibiChibi is the Light of Hope, a discovery that guides Sailor Moon in the final confrontation. After Sailor Moon defeats the source of the chaos, Princess Kakyuu is revived, and she and the Sailor Starlights return to their home to rebuild Kinmoku and begin anew.

Her key relationships define much of her presence in the series. The Sailor Starlights are her loyal protectors and subjects, and their devotion to finding her is a central thread of the story. ChibiChibi serves as her quiet guardian while she is hidden. With Sailor Moon, she shares a bond of mutual understanding and compassion, and her sacrifice leaves a lasting impact on the other characters. Princess Kakyuu's notable abilities in the anime include her capacity to remain concealed in an altered form, her protective forcefield, and her possession of a true star seed, which marks her as a figure of great spiritual importance. Her arc moves from hidden observer to revealed leader and ultimately to a symbol of hope and renewal for her people.
