Description
Ayaka Tateyama is a character from the multimedia project Kagerou Project, appearing in the anime adaptation Mekakucity Actors. She is the deceased wife of Kenjirou Tateyama and the mother of Ayano Tateyama. She is also the biological older sister of Hiyori Asahina, a connection that becomes significant to the story's events.

Before her death, Ayaka worked as an archaeologist. Her research was primarily focused on the legends of a Medusa, a subject that had fascinated her since childhood. She pursued this interest academically at university, where she met her future husband, Kenjirou, who was a classmate of hers. Her professional ambition was to find proof for the actual existence of the Medusa mentioned in the stories she loved.

Ayaka is described as having a cheerful, generous, and friendly personality. She cared for every member of her family equally and showed great kindness to others, a trait that helped keep her family together. However, she also possessed a frightening side when angered. Despite being troubled by heavy worries about the future, she would hide these concerns behind a smile to protect her children.

Ayaka's role in the story is largely defined by her family relationships and her research. She and Kenjirou fostered three children with special eye abilities: Tsubomi Kido, Shuuya Kano, and Kousuke Seto. Rather than fearing their powers, she tried her best to help her husband understand them. Observing the children's abilities only deepened her determination to find proof of the Medusa's existence, as she suspected a link between the legends and the children's conditions. She kept detailed notes of her worries and research progress in a journal.

Ayaka's death occurs when she and Kenjirou are caught in a landslide during a research mission. Her passing is a pivotal event that drives the actions of several characters. Her husband's immense grief and wish to reunite with her become the fuel for the Snake of Clearing Eyes, which possesses him. Her daughter, Ayano, later discovers her mother's research journal, which sets her on a path to uncover the truth about the eye powers and the mysterious Kagerou Daze, a distorted world related to the Medusa legend. Following her death, Ayaka is eventually reunited with her husband inside the Kagerou Daze.

Her motivations were rooted in a deep care for her family, particularly the foster children she took in, and an academic drive to understand the origin of their mysterious powers. She believed that by proving the Medusa legend was real, she could help them. Her key relationships include her husband Kenjirou, her daughter Ayano, her younger sister Hiyori, and her foster children Kido, Kano, and Seto, whom she treated as her own.

In terms of development, while Ayaka herself is a static character who dies before the main events of the story, her influence is dynamic. Her life's work and death are the catalysts for the actions of other characters. Her journal serves as a crucial piece of the puzzle, guiding her daughter and the other members of the Mekakushi Dan. She does not possess any notable supernatural abilities herself; her significance comes from her research and her familial bonds.
