Description
Momo Kisaragi is a sixteen-year-old high school student and a popular pop idol. She is the younger sister of Shintaro Kisaragi and becomes the fifth member of the Mekakushi-dan, a group of teenagers with supernatural eye abilities. Her background is marked by a traumatic incident during a school trip to the sea on August fifteenth, when she and her father were swept away by a wave and drowned. This event caused her to enter the Heat Haze, a strange dimension, where she was possessed by the Captivating Eyes snake, granting her an involuntary power known as the Captivating Eyes, or Drawing Eyes. This ability naturally draws the attention of everyone around her, regardless of their personal preferences, making it impossible for her to go unnoticed.

As a result of her power, Momo faced constant scrutiny and alienation from her peers, leaving her without friends and feeling deeply isolated. She developed an eccentric personality and a peculiar sense of taste and fashion, often leading to disagreements with others. Despite her insecurity, she is determined and pours her full effort into everything she does, whether it is her studies, her idol career, or helping her friends. Her outward cheerfulness as an idol masks the loneliness caused by her ability, but she is not arrogant about her uniqueness; rather, she longs to be accepted for who she truly is.

Momo’s motivations are rooted in her desire to find genuine connection and a place where she belongs. Her meeting with the Mekakushi-dan is pivotal, as the group accepts her for herself, not for her idol persona. Through her involvement with them, she regains her original bright and energetic character. Her role in the story is as a key member of the Mekakushi-dan, using her ability to draw attention for the group’s purposes and providing emotional support to her teammates. She develops close relationships with several members, particularly Marry Kozakura and Hibiya Amamiya, and looks up to the group’s leader, Tsubomi Kido, as a mentor. Her bond with her older brother Shintaro is complicated by his reclusive nature, but she cares for him deeply.

Over the course of the series, Momo’s character development focuses on learning to control her ability and finding self-acceptance. She grows from a lonely girl who feels defined by her power into someone who can use it for the sake of others and who knows she is valued for more than her fame. Her notable ability, the Captivating Eyes, remains an involuntary trait that she gradually learns to manage, though it continues to pose challenges in her daily life as an idol.
