Description
Azumi Kagamihara is a fourteen-year-old girl who serves as one of the central figures in her story. She has a petite stature, standing at 149 centimeters tall, with long white hair and red eyes. Her name is derived from Japanese locations, with "Kagamihara" referencing the city of Kakamigahara in Gifu Prefecture and "Azumi" referring to the Azumino region in Nagano Prefecture.

Azumi’s background is defined by a severe childhood illness, specifically a condition known as Resource Syndrome, which brought her to the brink of death. Her survival was made possible through the advanced medical technology of the Blue World, one of several alternate dimensions. This intervention extended her life but came with a significant condition: she must fight as a partner to a Z/X, a creature from another world. Her partner is a humanoid battle unit named Rigel. As a result of her prolonged illness, Azumi was unable to attend her elementary school graduation or continue a normal school life, and she has also been separated from living with her parents.

In terms of personality, Azumi is characterized as shy, reserved, and introverted. She speaks little and often gives the impression of being more mature than her age, a trait forged by her constant proximity to death. This experience has given her an exceptionally strong will to live, making her personal survival a powerful driving force. While initially focused on self-preservation, her attachment to life is a core aspect of her identity.

Her primary motivation is to survive and fulfill the obligations of her contract with the Blue World. As part of her arrangement, she is assigned to Fujimisaki Academy, a specialized institution that trains human and Z/X pairs. There, she is placed on a low-ranked team, where she initially struggles with interpersonal connections. Over time, her experiences with her teammates help her grow from a solitary survivor into a person who values mutual reliance and fights to protect others, not just herself.

The most critical relationship in Azumi’s life is with her Z/X partner, Rigel. Initially, Rigel was a tool for the Blue World to monitor and ensure Azumi’s cooperation, but their bond develops into one of genuine loyalty and mutual care, with Rigel eventually prioritizing Azumi’s safety above her original programming. Azumi also forms key relationships with her fellow students, and through shared trials and battles, she learns to work as part of a group, moving away from her initial isolation.

Azumi’s notable abilities are intrinsically linked to her partnership with Rigel. While her physical stamina is very low, she fights alongside Rigel, who is a sword sniper unit from the Blue World. Her true strength lies in her resource technology, where she is noted to have pushed her capacities to their limits, allowing her to contribute effectively in combat despite her frail constitution. Her strong determination in battle draws the respect of other Z/X creatures, establishing her as a key player in the larger conflict.
