Description
Kyoko Kurahashi is the granddaughter of Miyo Kurahashi, the principal of Onmyo Academy, and the heir to the powerful Kurahashi family. The Kurahashi family was originally a branch family of the influential Tsuchimikado clan, but after the Tsuchimikado's decline, the Kurahashi rose to become one of the most prominent families in the world of onmyoji. Kyoko is a student at Onmyo Academy, where she is a classmate of Harutora Tsuchimikado and Natsume Tsuchimikado.

Physically, Kyoko is a young woman with a tall and curvaceous figure, which is sometimes a source of teasing from her peers. She has long, wavy blonde hair that is typically styled with a bun on the left side of her head, adorned with rose-shaped decorations and purple pins. Her eyes are purple in color.

Kyoko's personality is multifaceted. Initially, she comes across as hostile and confrontational, particularly toward Harutora. This attitude stems from her perceived rivalry with Natsume Tsuchimikado, on whom she had developed a one-sided crush. She is portrayed as a top student who takes her studies and her family's reputation seriously, which makes her critical of those who do not seem to share her dedication. However, beneath her proud and sometimes stern exterior, Kyoko is a caring, supportive, and loyal friend. She often acts as a big sister figure and a mood-maker within her group of friends, showing great concern for their well-being. Her personality is also influenced by her grandmother, Miyo, whose playful and eccentric nature has given Kyoko a more lighthearted side that balances the strictness of her upbringing.

The driving force behind many of Kyoko's initial actions is a childhood memory. As a young girl, she visited the Tsuchimikado family estate and lost a precious ribbon. There, she met a young boy who was a member of the Tsuchimikado family and who promised to find her ribbon for her. This event left a deep impression on her, and she developed strong feelings for the boy. Years later, when she enrolled at Onmyo Academy, she mistakenly believed that Natsume Tsuchimikado was that boy and consequently developed a crush on her. Her confusion was compounded by the fact that Natsume, who was publicly living as a male, had no memory of the promise or the meeting, leading Kyoko to feel hurt and rejected. This misunderstanding is the root of her initial rivalry with Natsume and her hostility toward Harutora, who she saw as an outsider distracting Natsume.

Her role in the story evolves significantly when the truth is revealed. During the Shaver incident, Kyoko learns that Natsume is female and that the boy from her childhood was, in fact, Harutora. This revelation is a massive emotional shock; she feels betrayed and angry that she was kept in the dark. She confronts Harutora and Natsume, accusing them of being liars. However, she ultimately overcomes her hurt feelings, reconciles with Natsume, and comes to terms with the reality of her past. She decides to support Natsume and Harutora, even encouraging Natsume to confess her true feelings to Harutora. From this point forward, she becomes a steadfast and crucial ally to the main protagonists.

Kyoko's most notable abilities lie in her practice of Onmyoudou. She is an exceptionally skilled practitioner and is considered one of the top students in her class, second only to Natsume. Her specialty is the use of shikigami. She personally customizes and controls two powerful guardian shikigami named Hakuou (White Sakura) and Kokufu (Black Maple). These are based on the commercial G2 Yaksha model, with Hakuou wielding a katana and Kokufu a naginata. In battle, she typically uses them for support, employing strategic tactics to protect her allies and overwhelm opponents.

Furthermore, Kyoko possesses a latent talent for divination, specifically the ability to read the stars of others, a skill she inherits from her grandmother. This power awakens during a critical crisis following Natsume's apparent death. Under her grandmother's secret tutelage, Kyoko learns to hone this ability, which becomes a vital asset for predicting future events, locating lost friends, and finding paths to survival in dire situations.

Her key relationships deeply influence her development. Beyond her complicated history with Natsume and Harutora, she forms a close bond with Suzuka Dairenji. Despite Suzuka's initial hostility and her habit of teasing Kyoko about her figure, Kyoko takes the initiative to befriend her and helps open her heart to the group. Her relationship with her father, Genji Kurahashi, the stern director of the Onmyo Agency, is also a source of conflict. She respects him professionally but struggles with his emotional coldness and the morally ambiguous actions he takes, eventually choosing to rebel against the fate her family seems to have planned for her. Throughout the series, Kyoko transforms from a pride-driven rival and a girl trapped by a childhood misunderstanding into a mature, powerful, and emotionally resilient onmyoji who actively fights for her friends and defies a tragic destiny.
