Description
China Kousaka is a central character in Gundam Build Fighters. She is introduced as a first-year middle school student at the private Seiho Academy, where she serves as the class representative and is a member of the art club. Her family runs a restaurant called Kousaka, where she occasionally helps out. China is characterized by a thoughtful, intellectual, and somewhat reserved personality. Her primary interest initially is in painting, an art form at which she excels enough to win awards, and this creative eye later becomes an asset in her Gunpla-related activities.

China’s journey into the world of Gunpla Battle begins simply by watching her classmate, Sei Iori, build Gunpla with great passion. This observation sparks her own curiosity, leading her to ask Sei to teach her how to assemble a Gunpla. Her motivation is rooted in a desire to share in his interests and, more deeply, to spend time with him, as she gradually develops romantic feelings for him. In the story, China serves as a key supporting character for Sei and his partner Reiji. She is a source of quiet encouragement, often cheering for them during tournaments and providing moral support. Her role expands from a passive observer to an active participant, as she begins building her own Gunpla and eventually becomes a capable pilot in her own right.

China’s most significant relationship is with Sei Iori, whom she admires and grows to love. Their bond deepens throughout the series, with several of her actions being motivated by a desire to support him or to resolve misunderstandings between them. She is also the older sister of Yuuma Kousaka, who becomes a main protagonist in the sequel series, Gundam Build Fighters Try. A close friendship develops between China and Aila Jyrkiäinen, a fellow Gunpla fighter. Over the course of the series, China undergoes notable development, transforming from a shy and hesitant girl into a more confident individual. By the epilogue, she is shown to have traveled to France, likely with Sei, to further her studies in art.

China’s notable abilities stem from her background in art, which provides her with a keen eye for design and an exceptional talent for Gunpla painting and detailing. Her first Gunpla is the KUMA-03 Beargguy III, a custom creation that reflects her aesthetic sensibilities. Despite being a beginner, she quickly shows aptitude as a pilot, winning second place in a local all-girls Gunpla battle tournament. During the final battle at the space fortress A Baoa Qu, she pilots her Beargguy III effectively, taking down multiple enemy units and even maneuvering to protect Sei’s Gunpla from a devastating attack. Her calm demeanor and steady hand, both in art and in battle, define her as a character who grows from a quiet enthusiast into a crucial and reliable fighter.
