Description
Nils Nielsen, later known as Nils Yajima, is a supporting character in the anime Gundam Build Fighters. A prodigy in physics and engineering, he is nicknamed the Early Genius for his remarkable scientific accomplishments at a young age. Despite being a first-time participant in the Gunpla Battle Championship, he aims for the World Tournament using his custom Gunpla, the Sengoku Astray Gundam, a heavily modified mobile suit designed with the aesthetics of a samurai warrior.
Nils possesses a deeply analytical and pragmatic personality. He approaches Gunpla battles as a means to further his research on Plavsky Particles rather than for personal gratification or competition. He often remains detached and shows little overt reaction to victory or defeat, viewing each match primarily as a data-gathering exercise. His fighting style reflects this mindset, employing tactical decisions informed by his advanced knowledge and natural skill, which is believed to be enhanced by his background in martial arts.
His motivations are driven by intellectual curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge, specifically regarding the nature of Plavsky Particles. This singular focus initially makes him seem cold and distant. However, his perspective begins to shift through his encounters with Sei Iori and Reiji. Their passionate and intuitive approach to Gunpla building and battling forces him to confront the emotional heart of the sport, which he had previously been unable to quantify. This rivalry evolves into a mutual respect, marking a key turning point in his personal development as he starts to value passion alongside precision.
Later, Nils marries Caroline Yajima, the daughter of his sponsor, Yajima Trading. He adopts her surname, becoming Nils Yajima, and steps away from participating in official tournaments. He takes up the role of chief engineer at Yajima Engineering, where he dedicates himself to developing the New Plavsky Particle and system development for Gunpla Battle. He holds back from competing because he believes his extensive knowledge gives him an unfair advantage. In this capacity, he becomes a guardian of the sport's future, using his intellect to advance the technology from behind the scenes.
His most notable ability is his genius-level intellect, which he applies to both constructing high-performance Gunpla and developing new particle technology. As a builder and operator, he demonstrates expert craftsmanship and precise tuning, combined with tactical battle prowess. Over time, he matures from a detached researcher into a collaborative developer, playing a crucial role in shaping the infrastructure of Gunpla Battle itself.
