Description
Aila Jyrkiainen is a central character in Gundam Build Fighters, a Finnish gunpla fighter who initially serves as the ace pilot for the mysterious team Nemesis. Her background is one of isolation and exploitation. Growing up as an orphan on the streets of Finland, Aila possessed a rare and valuable natural talent: the ability to see the flow of Plavsky Particles, the energy source that powers gunpla battles. This unique constitution allowed her to predict opponents' movements and gauge the performance of a gunpla with incredible accuracy. Discovered by the Flana Institute, she was taken in by the organization Nemesis, which sought to weaponize her gift for their own promotional gain, subjecting her to numerous experiments and regimens.

Personality-wise, Aila initially presents as a quiet, emotionless, and distant individual, often speaking in short, bare-minimum responses. This cold front, however, is largely a defense mechanism and a result of her unhappy circumstances. In truth, she is a shy, pure-hearted teenage girl with a surprisingly enormous appetite for food, a trait she shares with Reiji. Her dislike for gunpla battles is profound, as she views them as pathetic and a source of pain, largely due to the forced use of the Embody System, which grants her incredible power at the cost of severe headaches and physical strain. Her deepest motivation is simply to live a normal life, free from the control of Nemesis and the pressure to fight, but she feels trapped, knowing she has no other means of survival after a life of poverty.

Aila's role in the story evolves from a formidable, seemingly unbeatable rival to a key ally and the primary love interest for the protagonist, Reiji. When she is not competing, she escapes the watchful eye of her manager, Nine Barthes, to explore the world around her. During one such escapade, she meets Reiji without either knowing the other's identity as a fighter, going by the alias "Aina". Through her interactions with Reiji, Sei, and China, she begins to experience genuine friendship and curiosity, slowly warming to the idea that gunpla battle might be more than just a painful obligation. Her key relationship is undoubtedly with Reiji. She is initially intrigued by his passion and skill, and their shared love for food and straightforward personalities create a strong bond. After a particularly brutal match where the Embody System causes her to lose control, Reiji reaches out to her, leading to her defection from Nemesis. She develops romantic feelings for him, which are reciprocated, and she eventually asks China to help her build a custom gunpla, the Miss Sazabi, to have a proper, enjoyable rematch with him.

Throughout the series, Aila undergoes significant development. She transitions from a reluctant, exploited tool into a lively, outspoken, and passionate individual who takes genuine joy in gunpla battle and building. This change is catalyzed by her newfound freedom and her relationship with Reiji, culminating in her decision to leave Earth with him when he returns to his home world of Arian. Years later, in the special Gundam Build Fighters Try Island Wars, it is shown that she has become the mother of a young daughter, living happily with Reiji, proving that she finally achieved her wish for a normal life.

Aila's most notable ability is her innate power to perceive the flow of Plavsky Particles, which effectively grants her a form of battle precognition. This skill is amplified to an extreme degree by the Embody System, a special bodysuit and helmet that synchronizes with her brainwaves. At full output, the system forcibly activates her brain, enhancing her particle discernment and control precision to superhuman levels, but at a high risk of causing brain damage or sending her into a berserker state where she continues attacking even after a match is over. Despite having little to no knowledge of building gunpla, her piloting skills are so extraordinary that she could decisively defeat an ex-champion's custom Devil Gundam using a standard, mass-produced RGM-89 Jegan. She primarily pilots the NMX-004 Qubeley Papillon, a mobile suit equipped with invisible funnels, and later builds her own custom MS, the AC-01 Miss Sazabi, which features improved mobility and unique armaments like the Sweet Sword.
