Description
Makoto Saeki is a second-year high school student and the fifteenth successor to her family's Inari shrine. Her family has watched over the shrine for fifteen generations. When she was around four years old, her mother Yuko passed away, and Makoto inherited a rare ability known as the Sight, which allows her to see the gods' agents, called heralds. She first met Gintaro, the silver fox herald of the Saeki Shrine, during her mother's funeral, and he declared her the fifteenth generation heiress. Makoto lives with her father, a shrine priest, and Gintaro.

Makoto is kind-hearted, cheerful, and optimistic, with a strong spirit and a stubborn streak. She is often impulsive, jumping into situations without fully thinking them through, which sometimes forces her to ask Gintaro for help. She has a strong desire to be useful to others and is a natural busybody, always looking for ways to assist people who come to the shrine. Despite her good intentions, she is somewhat childish for her age and can be oblivious to romantic feelings and the more subtle social dynamics around her. She takes her responsibilities as the shrine's heiress very seriously and is proud of her heritage.

Her primary role in the story is that of a go-between for the gods and humans. Together with Gintaro, she helps the people of her community by using her ability to see and communicate with heralds, along with Gintaro's own abilities to glimpse the future and find lost objects. She acts as a bridge between the mortal and spiritual worlds, assisting those who visit the shrine with their problems and prayers.

The most important relationship in Makoto's life is with Gintaro, the fox herald. Despite his rude, lazy, and unmotivated nature, she views him as a very important figure in her life and they share a deep, if often bickering, friendship. She is also close to her father, who supports her role at the shrine. Over the course of the series, she develops friendships with her classmates, including the uptight Funabashi and the friendly Ikegami. A key relationship forms when she meets Satoru Kamio, another person who possesses the Sight and can see heralds. Alongside Satoru and his young fox herald Haru, Makoto's world expands as she finds someone else who shares her unique experience.

Throughout the series, Makoto shows growth in her understanding of the spiritual world and her role within it. While she starts as a well-meaning but sometimes rash girl, she matures through her experiences helping others and navigating the complexities of being a herald-seer. Her development is closely tied to her bond with Gintaro and her interactions with Satoru and Haru, as she learns more about the weight of her lineage and the nature of the gods and their messengers.

Makoto's most notable ability is the Sight, which allows her to see and communicate with heralds such as Gintaro. This ability is passed down through her family line and is limited to one living relative at a time. She also performs the traditional duties of a shrine maiden, assisting with shrine rituals and helping maintain the sacred space. While she does not possess any supernatural combat abilities, her strength lies in her empathy, her determination to help others, and her role as an intermediary between humans and the divine.
