TV-Series
Description
Kanade Uryū, alias Metropoliman, is a 16-year-old student at Joso Academy, headed by his grandfather. He has wavy white hair, narrow eyes, long lashes, and a slender build, usually wearing his school uniform or all-black attire. As Metropoliman, he hides his identity with a full-body superhero suit modeled after a TV character, finding the double life "cool."
His personality blends arrogance, sadism, and cowardice, influenced by wealth. He shows callous disregard for human life, killing or manipulating others via his powers without remorse. He openly mocks those he deems inferior, calling fellow god candidate Hajime Sokotani a "cockroach" and enjoying his suffering. Despite outward confidence, he avoids direct fights without overwhelming advantage and flees or bargains when cornered. An unhealthy obsession defines him: viewing his younger sister Rea Uryū as "beautiful and flawless," he objectified her purity. When she died accidentally—falling from a height while fleeing his disapproval of her romantic interest—he cryogenically preserved her body at Joso Industries, bringing her flowers yearly on her birthday. Her death drove him to attempt suicide, interrupted by the angel Meyza, who selected him as a god candidate. Believing godhood could resurrect Rea, he embraced the competition.
As a Special Class candidate, Meyza granted him three powers: wings for high-speed flight, red arrows compelling absolute obedience and love for 33 days in up to 14 targets per arrow, and white arrows causing instant, painless death. He uses tactics like firing arrows with a 0.33-second delay between shots and combining multiple red arrows to extend range. After killing other candidates, he takes their arrows and wings, distributing them to controlled humans as proxies or assassins.
His actions as Metropoliman begin by assassinating candidate Tonma Rodriguez, condemning Tonma's selfish power use. He stages a bank robbery intervention, using red arrows on police and white arrows on robbers, then publicly declares his intent to eliminate the 12 other candidates on television. To lure targets, he hosts an event at Jinbo Stadium, deploying humans controlled by red arrows as decoys (Metroblue, Metroyellow) and capturing candidate Chiyo Nakayama. There, he executes candidates Shogo Hatakeyama and Saburo Tabuchi. Later, he manipulates escaped convict Mimimi Yamada into killing civilians to draw out rivals.
His alliance with Hajime Sokotani is exploitative; he assigns Hajime to capture candidates while deriding him. When Hajime kidnaps candidate Nanato Mukaido's family but fails, Kanade abandons him. Ultimately cornered and wounded by Nanato and Mirai Kakehashi, Kanade begs for his life, offering money or political influence and invoking his sister's name as justification. His pleas rejected, he is killed by Nanato.
He collaborates with Meyza, agreeing rapid elimination of rivals is optimal for godhood. His fixation on Rea borders on pathological, framing her preservation and resurrection as his sole purpose while disregarding her autonomy in life or death.
