Description
Kōichi Umeda is a supporting character in the Gatchaman Crowds anime series. He is a Japanese high school student with brown hair and grey eyes, known for his intelligence and exceptional computer skills. Initially introduced as a member of the Hundred, a group that advocates for a more active and violent use of the CROWDS system, Umeda is eventually dismissed from that organization. When the alien Berg Katze takes control of the CROWDS system, Umeda becomes the leader of a new faction called the Neo Hundred, continuing to push for aggressive deployment of the power. Over the course of the story, however, he grows disillusioned with violence and reassesses his beliefs. Umeda is portrayed as a reserved and methodical individual, often relying on logic and rules, but his experiences force him to confront new perspectives. His technical expertise allows him to hack into systems and gather valuable intelligence, which he uses to support or challenge the Gatchaman team at various points. His key relationships include his former comrades in the Hundred and the Gatchaman members, particularly Rui Ninomiya, the original creator of the CROWDS system. Umeda’s development reflects a journey from a rigid, confrontational stance to a more nuanced understanding of power and responsibility.
