TV-Series
Description
Chiaki Yoshino is a central character in the series, recognized as a highly successful and popular shoujo manga artist at the age of 28. He publishes his work under the female pen name Chiharu Yoshikawa, a necessary disguise he maintains because he believes his male identity would disappoint his primarily female readership. Professionally, he is a star writer for Emerald magazine at Marukawa Publishing, with his series having achieved total sales exceeding ten million copies. Despite his immense professional success and intense passion for creating manga, Chiaki is notoriously disorganized and suffers from chronic poor time management, which leads to a habitual failure to meet deadlines much to the frustration of those around him. This lack of organization extends beyond his work into his personal life, leaving him dependent on others for basic domestic tasks; he is well-known for his inability to cook and generally requires care from those close to him.

In terms of appearance, Chiaki has medium-length, spiky brown hair with side bangs that often cover his left brow, and blue eyes. Due to his habit of skipping meals and sleep during intense periods of work leading up to a deadline, he is frequently underweight. He typically dresses in casual clothing, reserving more formal attire, such as a suit, only for special company events like Marukawa's New Year's party. His personality is a blend of professional dedication and personal naivety; he is emotionally transparent and easy-going, yet often remarkably oblivious to the romantic and social cues of those around him, making him a natural uke character.

The most significant relationship in Chiaki's life is with Yoshiyuki Hatori, his editor and childhood best friend whom he has known since elementary school. For years, Hatori harbored long-standing romantic feelings for Chiaki, which prompted him to join Marukawa specifically to become Chiaki's editor and remain close to him. Chiaki, however, was initially blind to these feelings, mistakenly believing that Hatori was in a relationship with their mutual friend, Yuu Yanase. Their relationship dynamic changed dramatically when Hatori, unable to contain his feelings any longer, kissed Chiaki while he slept. This event threw Chiaki into confusion, but ultimately forced him to confront his own emotions. When Hatori, out of guilt, attempted to resign as his editor and leave his life, Chiaki panicked and demanded a kiss to test his own comfort level with such intimacy. Finding that it did not disgust him, Chiaki actively chose to begin a relationship with Hatori. Over time, his feelings of friendship deepened into profound love, marked by fierce jealousy when others show interest in Hatori, and a decisive refusal of any other suitors.

The other pivotal figure in Chiaki's life is Yuu Yanase, his other best friend since junior high and his chief manga assistant. Yuu is also in love with Chiaki, a fact that Chiaki is very slow to recognize due to his oblivious nature. Yuu’s affection is expressed through his constant requests to draw Chiaki, including nude sketches, and his open competition with Hatori, which creates a tense love triangle. While Chiaki deeply values his friendship with Yuu, he has made it unmistakably clear that he does not share his romantic feelings. When Yuu once forced himself on Chiaki in an attempt to spark love through intimacy, Chiaki responded by punching him and declaring that Hatori was the only man he could ever be intimate with. Despite this rejection, the two manage to maintain their close friendship and professional relationship, with Yuu remaining a highly efficient and reliable chief assistant.

Throughout the story, Chiaki demonstrates significant emotional development. He transitions from a state of confusion regarding his own sexuality and feelings to a place of assured commitment and agency in his relationship with Hatori. This growth is evident in moments where he moves from naively avoiding emotional confrontations to actively asserting his love, such as when he became uncharacteristically angry and refused to let Hatori break up with him based on false assumptions about his feelings being out of sympathy. A notable ability, aside from his professional talent for creating best-selling shoujo manga, is his capacity for decisive and forceful action when pushed to his emotional limit. In his personal life, Chiaki has several quirks, including a love for sweet food and an odd preference for sleeping in Hatori's small bed rather than his own large king-sized bed, which is big enough for five people.
