Description
Haruka Niimi is a central character and the primary heroine of the anime Photo Kano. She is a second-year student in class 2-B and is the childhood friend of the protagonist, Kazuya Maeda, with whom she also shares the same class.

In terms of appearance, Haruka is a tall, athletic girl with long brown hair that she often styles with clips or a scrunchie. Her natural beauty, combined with her athletic prowess and academic excellence, makes her incredibly popular at school, earning her the status of the school idol among both male and female students. She is a member of the tennis club and is considered its ace player.

Haruka is characterized by her kind, sociable, and feminine personality. She is known to be friendly and gets along well with almost everyone. This pleasant demeanor, however, masks a more complicated past with Kazuya. In their childhood, Haruka was something of a tomboy who enjoyed playing soccer with Kazuya and other boys. An incident where Kazuya touched her chest made him realize she was growing into a young woman, which inadvertently led to a distance growing between them. Consequently, Haruka made a conscious effort to become more feminine, and she transferred to an all-girls middle school.

Her primary motivation throughout the story is to rekindle the close friendship she once shared with Kazuya. Despite her popularity and her own feelings for him, Kazuya is intimidated by her beauty and status, leading him to keep his distance. This deeply saddens Haruka, who wishes they could return to the easy familiarity of their childhood. Unlike many heroines who are actively pursued, the dynamic of Haruka's relationship with Kazuya often feels like she is the one trying to close the emotional gap between them, effectively making her the pursuer in the narrative.

In the story, Haruka holds a prominent role as the main love interest. The anime adaptation reflects this, as she is the only heroine to have two full episodes dedicated to her route, suggesting that her storyline is the most developed and serves as a core narrative. Her key relationships include her friendship with Kanon Maeda, Kazuya's younger sister, who is also a fellow tennis club member. Within the club, she interacts with other potential heroines like Nonoka Masaki, the ace pitcher of the softball club.

Regarding her development, Haruka undergoes a subtle but important shift in her relationship with Kazuya. The story focuses on resolving the misunderstandings that emerged during their adolescence, allowing them to overcome the awkwardness created by their changing dynamic and public perception. The narrative often explores the tension between her public image as a perfect, untouchable idol and her private desire for a genuine, close relationship with Kazuya.

Notable abilities include her exceptional skill in tennis and her high academic standing, consistently ranking near the top of her class. Her social intelligence also stands out, as she navigates her popularity with grace and kindness, making her approachable to everyone despite her iconic status.
