Kanae Itō
Description
Kanae Itō is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on November 26, 1986, in Nagano Prefecture. She is affiliated with the talent agency Aoni Production and the music label Lantis. Her journey to becoming a voice actress began in middle school after listening to a radio program hosted by Junko Takeuchi, which inspired her to pursue a career in the industry. Following her graduation from high school, she attended the Amusement Media Academy, a vocational school for voice actors, from which she graduated in 2007.
Itō's first major role and acting debut came in 2007 when she was cast as the lead heroine, Amu Hinamori, in the anime series Shugo Chara!. The role was well-received by critics and established her as a rising talent in the voice acting community. Prior to this breakthrough, she had been a member of two short-lived voice acting units, Koecchi and Rirachitchi, during her student years.
Following her debut, Itō demonstrated her versatility by voicing a wide array of characters across numerous popular anime series. Her filmography is extensive and includes many notable and recurring roles. Some of her most recognized performances include Ruiko Saten in the A Certain Scientific Railgun and A Certain Magical Index series, Elsie in The World God Only Knows, Nana Astar Deviluke in the To Love-Ru franchise, Ohana Matsumae in Hanasaku Iroha - Blossoms for Tomorrow, Yui in Sword Art Online, and Suzuno Kamazuki in The Devil Is a Part-Timer!. She has also lent her voice to a multitude of other characters across different genres, such as Sena Kashiwazaki in Haganai, Oda Nobuna in The Ambition of Oda Nobuna, Airi in the Queen's Blade series, Kanon Kanase in Strike the Blood, and the recurring role of Mega-nee Akai in the Pretty Rhythm and its successor series, including PriPara, Kiratto Pri☆Chan, and Waccha PriMagi!. In the long-running series One Piece, she voices the character Carrot.
Her talent and contributions to the industry have been recognized with two Seiyu Awards. In 2010, she won the Award for Best New Actress, and in 2011, she received the Award for Best Supporting Actress. Beyond voice acting, Kanae Itō has also pursued a career as a singer. She made her solo singer debut in 2009 with the single Yume Miru Kokoro. She has since released multiple singles and several solo albums, including Kokoro Keshiki in 2011 and Miageta Keshiki in 2013. Her discography also includes numerous character songs and theme songs for anime in which she has appeared.
Itō shares a close friendship with fellow voice actress Aki Toyosaki, with whom she has co-starred in several major series, including Shugo Chara!, To Love-Ru, and A Certain Scientific Railgun. They also co-hosted a web radio show for the latter franchise. In January 2024, Itō announced her marriage through her official blog.
