Description
Kikune Kiba is a character from the second season of the romantic comedy anime. She is a first-year high school student and a member of the school's kendo club. Kikune is known for being one of the three self-proclaimed bodyguards of Aki Adagaki, alongside Sonoka Kaneko and Mari Mizuno, forming a close-knit trio dedicated to protecting and accompanying the main heroine.
In terms of appearance, Kikune has a distinctive and athletic look. She has short, messy brown hair with bangs that fall just above her light brown eyes. Her physique is slim and well-toned as a result of her athletic lifestyle, and her skin has a darker complexion, often described as tanned. Her typical outfit includes a black, short-sleeved shirt which she wears even during colder seasons, paired with a tie instead of the standard ribbon.
Personality-wise, Kikune is highly energetic, tomboyish, and possesses a very straightforward, impulsive nature. Her athleticism is a core part of her identity, and she excels in physical activities and sports. However, she is not particularly adept at intellectual or strategic thinking, which makes her somewhat gullible and easily fooled by others, especially the scheming Kanetsugu Gasou. Despite her tough exterior, she has a strong sense of fairness and good sportsmanship; for example, she once untied Masamune Makabe when he pointed out that she was being unfair while guarding him.
Kikune's primary motivation is her fierce loyalty to Aki Adagaki. She is extremely protective and views any boy approaching Aki with deep suspicion. This is compounded by a strong prejudice against boys, and she makes no secret of her dislike for them. Among the three bodyguards, she is the most openly hostile towards Masamune Makabe, the male protagonist, and is the quickest to act on her negative feelings.
Her role in the story is mainly as a supporting character and a minor antagonist. She serves as an obstacle for Masamune, as she and her fellow bodyguards frequently interfere with his plans to get close to Aki. Her impulsive nature means she often jumps to conclusions and attempts to physically intimidate or remove Masamune, though her lack of cunning means she is often outmaneuvered by him. Her key relationships are with her two friends, Sonoka and Mari, with whom she shares the duty of guarding Aki, and with Kanetsugu Gasou, whose deceptions she readily believes.
Kikune shows little in the way of significant character development, remaining a consistent source of energetic opposition and comic relief. Her notable abilities are all physical. Her membership in the kendo club indicates she is skilled with a sword, and her general athleticism makes her capable of impressive feats of agility and strength. She is unafraid to use physical force to achieve her goals, living up to her role as the physical enforcer of Aki's unofficial guard squad.
