Description
Ohana Matsumae, a 16-year-old girl from Tokyo, is sent to live with her estranged grandmother, Sui Shijima, after her mother elopes with her boyfriend. Sui is the strict and demanding owner of Kissuiso, a traditional hot spring inn in the countryside. Ohana, initially unfamiliar with the rural lifestyle and the rigorous work ethic required at the inn, struggles to adapt. Despite her initial reluctance, she gradually becomes determined to prove herself and earn her place among the staff.

The narrative explores Ohana’s growth as she navigates the challenges of her new environment. She forms relationships with the inn’s employees, including the reserved but hardworking Minko Tsurugi, the cheerful and supportive Nako Oshimizu, and the enigmatic manager, Tomoe Wajima. Ohana’s interactions with these characters reveal their individual struggles and aspirations, adding depth to the story. Her grandmother, Sui, is a central figure whose stern demeanor masks a deep sense of responsibility and care for the inn and its legacy.

As Ohana becomes more involved in the daily operations of Kissuiso, she learns about the complexities of running a traditional inn and the importance of preserving its heritage. The series delves into themes of family, responsibility, and self-discovery, as Ohana grapples with her feelings of abandonment by her mother and her desire to forge her own path. Her journey is marked by moments of triumph and failure, as she gradually matures and gains a deeper understanding of herself and those around her.

The plot also incorporates subplots involving the inn’s guests and the personal lives of the staff, providing a rich tapestry of interconnected stories. These subplots highlight the challenges of balancing personal aspirations with professional duties, as well as the importance of community and mutual support. The series maintains a balance between lighthearted moments and more serious, introspective scenes, creating a nuanced portrayal of life at Kissuiso.

Throughout the series, Ohana’s determination and optimism serve as a driving force, inspiring those around her to confront their own insecurities and strive for growth. The narrative culminates in a series of events that test the resilience of the inn and its staff, ultimately reinforcing the themes of perseverance and the enduring value of tradition. The story concludes with Ohana reflecting on her journey and the lessons she has learned, leaving her future open-ended but filled with promise.
