Description
Enishi Shijima, 32, is the son of Sui Shijima, younger brother of Satsuki Matsumae, and uncle to protagonist Ohana Matsumae. Childhood bullying by Satsuki left lasting scars, fueling his self-doubt and fear of failure. At the family’s hot spring inn, Kissuisō, he oversees front desk operations while striving to demonstrate his worth as a potential successor to Sui. Driven by a desire to earn his mother’s approval, he partners with Takako Kawajiri, a pragmatic business consultant and former classmate. Though dedicated, his earnest initiatives often unravel due to social clumsiness and miscalculations, drawing Sui’s sharp rebukes and underscoring his fragile confidence.

Unspoken affection for Takako slowly blossoms into mutual affection as they navigate Kissuisō’s challenges together, eventually leading to marriage. This union emboldens Enishi to challenge Sui’s criticisms of Takako, signaling his tentative steps toward self-assurance. After Kissuisō’s closure, he commits to honing his managerial expertise, determined to revive the inn under his leadership. His evolution traces a hesitant but persistent shift from insecurity to purposeful action, though his endearing awkwardness and sincerity remain core traits. His name, meaning “edge, fate, or connection,” mirrors his role as a link between familial heritage and future ambitions.
