TV-Series
Description
Mihoshi Akeno is the main female protagonist of Sora no Manimani. She is a second-year student at Souei High School and the founder and president of the school's astronomy club. One year older than her childhood friend Saku Ooyagi, Mihoshi has a cheerful and energetic demeanor that often comes across as childish.
Her background is defined by her deep and abiding passion for astronomy, a love she inherited from her late father. As a child, she would frequently drag Saku outside to stargaze against his will, which formed the foundation of their early friendship. The day Saku's family moved away, Mihoshi fell from a tree; Saku caught her and broke his arm in the process. Unable to see him off because she was hospitalized from the fall, Mihoshi's absence created a lasting misunderstanding that Saku carried with him for seven years.
When Saku returns to their hometown for high school, Mihoshi is overjoyed to be reunited. Despite his initial resentment over the broken arm and her apparent abandonment, she is determined to restore their relationship. She enthusiastically convinces him to join the astronomy club, overriding his desire to join the literature club. Mihoshi's personality is forceful when necessary, as seen in her arguments with fellow club member Fumie Kotozuka, but her drive stems from a genuine desire to share the wonder of the night sky with others.
Her primary motivation is to spread her love of astronomy and to build a vibrant club that can observe and appreciate the universe together. She takes an active role in recruiting new members, planning stargazing events, and maintaining group morale. Her key relationships revolve around the astronomy club: her rekindled friendship with Saku is the emotional core of the story, and she also bonds with other members such as Hime Makita, who initially joins because of a crush on Saku.
Throughout the series, Mihoshi shows personal growth as she navigates the lingering effects of the childhood misunderstanding and works to strengthen her bond with Saku. She remains consistently bright and optimistic, using her knowledge of the stars to inspire those around her. While she has no supernatural abilities, her notable strengths lie in her deep understanding of astronomy, her persistence in pursuing her goals, and her talent for bringing people together through a shared sense of wonder.
