Description
Momoko Ōtani is a supporting character in the anime Photo Kano who arrives at Kouga Academy as a student teacher at the start of the new semester. She is assigned to teach mathematics to class 3-A and is still a university student herself, which gives her a demeanor that feels less like a formal teacher and more like an approachable older sister. Having attended an all-girls school from elementary through high school before entering a co-educational university, she is still adjusting to a mixed-gender environment in her role as an instructor. Her personality is bright, sociable, and easygoing. She has a habit of casually striking up conversations with students, which quickly makes her popular among the student body, and she does not mind when they address her informally. However, she is also noticeably ditzy and clumsy, and she has a poor sense of direction that causes her to struggle finding her way around campus. Her primary motivation is to complete her teaching practicum and become an elementary school teacher. She also harbors a hope to teach swimming to elementary school children, though this ambition is complicated by the fact that she is not a strong swimmer herself. In the anime, she relies on the student council president, Aki Muroto, who is an accomplished swimmer, to help her improve. Her role in the story is that of a friendly adult figure who interacts with the protagonist and his classmates in a warm, unguarded manner, offering encouragement and a lighthearted presence. In terms of development, she demonstrates a sincere desire to grow into a capable educator, and her interactions with the students help her gain confidence in her teaching abilities. Notable aspects of her character include her naturally brown hair, which she inherited from her grandmother, and her overall upbeat and caring nature that makes her a trusted and beloved presence at the academy.
