TV-Series
Description
Aya Hoshino is a sixteen-year-old first-year student at Hounan High School, with her birthday falling on February 17th. She is introduced as one of the top academic students in her class, known for her diligent and studious nature.

Despite her academic success, Aya initially struggles under the immense pressure from her parents, who are very strict about her maintaining her position as the number one student and forbid her from having part-time jobs or going out with friends. This pressure leads her to secretly engage in enjo kōsai, a form of compensated dating, as a way to earn money and perhaps rebel against her confined life. Her involvement in this activity is discovered by Ran Kotobuki, who confronts her and helps her realize the danger and immorality of her actions before she goes too far. This intervention marks a turning point, and Aya becomes a close friend of Ran and Miyu Yamazaki.

Personality-wise, Aya is characterized as shy, honest, and somewhat timid, often crying during emotional moments. She genuinely enjoys her studies but also secretly longs for excitement and a more normal, fun-filled adolescence, a desire that is fulfilled through her friendship with the outgoing and confident Ran. Before meeting Ran and Miyu, her life was a monotonous routine of going back and forth between home, school, and cram school, having never really done anything for fun. Over the course of the series, Aya experiences significant development. She grows braver and learns to stand on her own, moving away from being a passive follower.

Her primary motivation becomes intertwined with her personal growth and her romantic feelings. She develops a huge crush on Rei Otohata, a popular but cold and aloof boy. Her initial attempts to confess her feelings are difficult and awkward. Ran, aware of Aya's feelings and unaware that Rei secretly likes her, asks Rei to date Aya. Rei agrees initially to make Ran happy and out of pity for Aya. This leads to a complicated relationship where Aya struggles with insecurity, suspecting that Rei is dating her out of pity and still has feelings for Ran. When her suspicions are confirmed, it becomes a major source of inner conflict. However, as Aya becomes stronger and more decisive, Rei's feelings genuinely change, and he falls in love with her by the end of the series.

In the story, Aya serves as the studious member of the main trio of gals, often providing a contrast to Ran's impulsive energy and Miyu's more reserved strength. Her key relationships are central to the plot. Her bond with Ran and Miyu provides her with a supportive social circle and a gateway to a more exciting life. Her relationship with Rei Otohata is a major focus, evolving from a one-sided, insecure crush into a genuine, mutual romantic partnership. By the conclusion of both the anime and manga, she is dating Rei, and in the manga, she successfully studies to enter the same prestigious college as him. Her notable ability is her high intelligence and academic prowess, which she learns to apply not just for her parents' approval but to achieve her own personal goals, such as getting into her desired university.
