Description
The Misaka Little Sister, most prominently represented by Misaka 10032, is one of twenty thousand clones of the Level 5 esper Mikoto Misaka, collectively known as the Sisters. They were created through the Radio Noise Project and later used as disposable subjects in the Level 6 Shift experiment, a secret program designed to force the esper Accelerator to evolve into a being of absolute power. Each clone possesses a weaker variant of Mikoto’s electromaster ability, capable of manipulating electricity and generating small-scale electrical attacks, but they lack the original’s raw power and finesse. All Sisters are linked through the Misaka Network, a telepathic hive mind that allows them to share memories, thoughts, and sensory data instantaneously, effectively functioning as a single distributed consciousness.

The Sisters were manufactured rapidly, resulting in a deliberately subdued and emotionally flat demeanor. They speak in a distinctive third‑person style, often describing their own actions as if observing themselves from outside, and their facial expressions are minimal. This lack of visible emotion is not true emptiness, however; it stems from their accelerated development and the early suppression of individuality designed to make them compliant experimental tools. As the story progresses, Misaka 10032 in particular begins to show glimpses of curiosity, self‑preservation, and a desire for meaningful connection. Her initial motivation is simply to fulfill her designated role in the experiment, but after interacting with Mikoto and the boy Touma Kamijou, she starts to question her purpose and value, gradually awakening a sense of personal identity and a wish to live for her own sake.

In the narrative of A Certain Scientific Railgun S, the Sisters serve as both the central tragedy and the emotional core of the Sisters Arc. Mikoto discovers the existence of the clones and is horrified to learn that they are being systematically killed in Accelerator’s experiment. She feels immense guilt because her own DNA map was taken without consent years earlier, making her the unwilling origin of their suffering. The Sisters, and particularly Misaka 10032, become the catalyst for Mikoto’s desperate, self‑sabotaging attempts to stop the project alone. Misaka 10032 is the clone Mikoto encounters most frequently after the death of Misaka 9982, and she is the one who survives the final confrontation with Accelerator thanks to Touma’s intervention. Touma gives her a simple necklace as a token of her individuality, a gesture that profoundly affects her sense of self.

Key relationships shape the clone’s development. She regards Mikoto as her original and genetic template, and while she initially shows no strong attachment, she later comes to value Mikoto’s protective concern. Bonding with Touma is particularly significant: he treats her not as a specimen or a disposable copy but as a human being worthy of kindness and a future. This encounter plants the seeds of her personal growth. Within the Misaka Network, the Sisters share a collective bond, but Misaka 10032 gradually stands out as an individual, displaying a childlike innocence and a soft spot for small animals, such as cats.

By the end of the Sisters Arc, the experiment is halted, and the surviving Sisters, including Misaka 10032, are allowed to live. They begin to forge their own lives, free from the original programming. The clone’s arc traces a movement from being a mere cog in a cruel machine to becoming a person who can hope, form attachments, and decide her own path. Her notable ability beyond the basic electromaster power is her connection to the Misaka Network, which grants her instant access to the collective knowledge and experience of all her sisters—a resource that proves invaluable in later conflicts. While her electrical output is far below Mikoto’s, she and her sisters can coordinate attacks and share sensor data, making them a formidable force when acting as a unit.
