Description
Masato Kadowaki is a student from modern-day Japan who serves as a central antagonistic force in the narrative. He was once a close friend of Arata Hinohara during middle school, where the two were teammates on the track team. However, by the time they entered high school, Kadowaki’s feelings had soured into intense resentment. He came to believe that Hinohara looked down on him, a perception that fueled a deep and persistent hatred. This bitterness transformed Kadowaki into Hinohara’s primary bully, and he actively worked to turn others—including Hinohara’s best friend—against him, isolating his former friend socially.

Driven by jealousy, insecurity, and a need to prove himself superior, Kadowaki’s animosity does not remain confined to the real world. After the dimensional switch that sends Hinohara to the fantasy realm of Amawakuni, Kadowaki follows him by exchanging places with Harunawa, one of the mysterious Six Shinshō. This transition grants him access to a Hayagami, a sacred spirit weapon. He activates the Hayagami known as Orochi, the god of darkness, which manifests as a spear. With this power, Kadowaki becomes a recurring and dangerous adversary for Hinohara, confronting him multiple times across the story.

Kadowaki’s personality is defined by a combination of pride, resentment, and a relentless drive to dominate and prove his worth. His actions in both worlds—bullying at school and pursuing Hinohara in Amawakuni—stem from the same core conviction that he is being slighted or underestimated. He lacks empathy for his victim and demonstrates a willingness to embrace dark power to achieve his goals. His relationship with Hinohara is the most significant in his arc, serving as both the source of his hatred and the target of his obsession. Kadowaki’s development, though limited, shows him willing to cross worlds and ally with sinister forces to continue his pursuit of superiority. His notable ability is his wielding of Orochi, which grants him formidable combat strength and makes him a direct physical threat to the protagonist.
