Description
Logicoma, designated model number LCM22, is an autonomous infantry logistical support vehicle that appears in the Ghost in the Shell: Arise series. Its name is a shortening of Logistics Conveyer Machine. Manufactured in 2022, it is a quadrupedal walker tank originally assigned to Public Security Section 9 for field testing. The Logicoma possesses a moderately advanced artificial intelligence that allows it to identify its commander and provide autonomous support during operations, acting as a liaison and bodyguard for Major Motoko Kusanagi while she investigates cases such as the bribery charges against Lieutenant Mamuro. It communicates through signal lights and is equipped with thermoptic camouflage, enabling it to render itself invisible. The unit’s physical design is reminiscent of a spider, with four extendable armored legs, a domed central body, a rear-mounted abdomen, and two forward manipulator arms. Its primary function is to transport weapons and ammunition, and it originally carried no passenger space, though later equipment expansions allowed for arm attachments. Over the course of the Arise storyline, the Logicoma is a recurring support presence in each of the four Border episodes and also appears in dedicated comedic shorts. In the sequel film Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, an upgraded variant appears with an increased number of weapons and a makeshift pilot capsule. The Logicoma’s personality is that of a loyal, task-oriented machine; it follows orders without question and provides reliable backup in combat situations, though its AI is sufficiently sophisticated to make tactical decisions and identify its handler. Its key relationship is with Kusanagi, for whom it serves as a constant technological companion and protector. The development of the Logicoma mirrors the series’ focus on the role of autonomous AI in military and security contexts, and its design carries forward the franchise’s tradition of versatile think-tank units.
