Description
Hydra Bell is a prominent character in Blood Lad, introduced as a highly skilled and self-proclaimed bounty hunter. She is a practitioner of the highest level of spatial magic, with an extraordinary ability to manipulate dimensions and travel almost anywhere she desires. Her physical appearance includes a height of 158 centimeters, and she is often seen carrying a large backpack, a distinctive trait that leads other characters to nickname her "Daifuku" or Marshmallow. She belongs to a unique group known as the Helm family.

In terms of personality, Bell presents herself as confident and pragmatic, often taking a playful yet testing approach to those she encounters. She is initially drawn to the vampire Staz, who has had his powers sealed, finding him interesting enough to orchestrate challenges for him. Despite her composed and sometimes mischievous exterior, Bell harbors genuine romantic feelings for Staz, which she struggles to openly express. She demonstrates a strong will and is not afraid to act on her own beliefs, even when it means clashing with her own family or risking being misunderstood by others. Her interactions are often laced with a sense of mystery, as she tends to keep important information to herself, revealing it only when she deems it strategically necessary for later use.

Bell’s motivations evolve throughout the story. She is introduced while investigating who has been using her Black Curtain, a portal connecting the human world and the demon world. Her primary objective is to understand the situation involving the human girl Yanagi Fuyumi and the vampire Staz. As the narrative progresses, her motivations become deeply personal, driven by her affection for Staz and the discovery that Fuyumi is actually her younger half-sister. This revelation and her feelings for Staz put her at odds with her family, particularly after her brother, Knell, captures Fuyumi under their mother's orders, forcing Bell to help the two escape.

Her role in the story is multifaceted. Initially acting as a catalyst by using the promise of the Book of Human Resurrection to drive Staz into a confrontation with Wolf, she later becomes a crucial ally. She provides Staz with the Book of Human Resurrection and assists in his quest to revive Fuyumi. Using her immense magical abilities, she frequently acts as a guide and a means of transportation, moving characters across vast distances between worlds. She also serves as a key to unlocking past secrets, as her connection to Fuyumi’s mother reveals the complex family history that intertwines the human and demon worlds.

Bell’s relationships are central to her character. Her most significant relationship is with Staz. She is clearly in love with him, a fact she nearly reveals in a notebook titled things she wants. Although she often tests him and competes with him, she ultimately supports his goals, even helping him rescue Fuyumi. Her dynamic with Fuyumi is complicated, evolving from being strangers to learning they are sisters, which adds a deep layer of personal stakes to the conflict. Bell also interacts with Wolf, at one point accompanying him on a journey to find his birth mother and learning new skills, where she is humorously mistaken for his girlfriend by his mother. Her family includes her father Heads Hydra, a powerful ruler of his own zone, and her younger brother Knell, who is an enemy to Staz and Fuyumi.

Bell does not undergo a drastic personality change, but her development lies in the expansion of her personal commitments. She begins as a somewhat detached observer and tester of strength, but she ends as a fiercely loyal individual who is willing to betray her family's orders and run away from home to do what she believes is right. Her actions demonstrate a growing willingness to sacrifice her own standings and safety for the sake of Staz and, by extension, her newly discovered sister.

Her notable abilities are all derived from her mastery of spatial magic. As a spatial magician of the highest quality, she can create portals, or gaps in space, using any object with a frame, such as a window or a doorway. This allows her to travel instantly between locations, including connecting the human world and the demon world with a technique called the Black Curtain. Her powers are not limited to transportation; she can use her magic offensively. By closing a spatial frame around a target, she can sever their limbs, effectively dismembering them. She can also redirect both physical and magical attacks by opening portals in their path. One of her most powerful techniques is the creation of an isolated subspace known as the Grid Room, a dimension that only she can access, trapping her opponents within it. Furthermore, her magic grants her the ability to detect and observe targets across different dimensions, making her an invaluable source of information and reconnaissance.
