Description
Hydra Knell is a young demon and a member of the powerful Hydra family. He is introduced as the younger brother of Hydra Bell, as well as the younger brother of Fuyumi Yanagi, a human girl who has been brought into the demon world. Knell serves as an errand boy for his mother, Nyen, and is a son of Heads Hydra, the ruler of his own territory. He is a blonde-haired youth with a distinct appearance, characterized by short hair that covers one of his eyes. He typically wears a blue jacket and jeans. His eyes are gray, and he has the appearance of a teenager.

In terms of personality, Knell possesses a snarky and somewhat irritable demeanor, yet he demonstrates a caring and considerate side. This is evident in his interactions with Fuyumi, whom he is tasked with kidnapping. Despite his mission, he treats her decently, offering her meals and not acting with cruelty. He is also protective of his older sister, Bell. While he can be annoyed by her, such as when she kicks him, he genuinely worries about her well-being. When Bell becomes depressed over her unrequited feelings for the main character Staz, Knell shows concern and even feels guilty for having teased her about the situation.

Knell's primary motivation is driven by obedience to his mother, Nyen. He is sent to kidnap Fuyumi and bring her to the Hydra family estate, acting as Nyen's errand boy. His role in the story is largely that of a catalyst and an antagonist for an arc, as his capture of Fuyumi forces the protagonist, Staz, to pursue him. He lives in a hard-to-reach location known as the inaccessible Dimensional Highway, which is part of the Hydra family's territory.

Key relationships define much of his character. His sister, Bell, is a significant figure in his life, and he defers to her in many situations. When confronted by Staz, Bell chooses to assist Knell, allowing him to escape while she holds off the vampire. His relationship with his father, Heads Hydra, is less directly explored, though he is established as part of a powerful magical lineage. Like his sister, Knell fears their mother Nyen's anger. He also has a connection to Fuyumi, who becomes his adoptive sister by being the daughter of Nyen from a previous relationship, though his mission is to detain her.

Knell does not undergo significant character development in the anime, remaining a consistent supporting antagonist. His primary narrative function is to introduce the wider Hydra family and their unique powers. However, his hidden caring side suggests he is not purely villainous.

Knell's most notable ability is Spatial Magic, a hereditary power of the Hydra family. This magic allows the user to travel through gaps in space to reach different destinations and to open spatial frames that function as windows, enabling the user to spy on distant locations. While his father, Heads Hydra, can use this magic to travel anywhere by will alone, and his sister Bell requires a frame to jump through, Knell has a unique condition for his transportation. He requires a blanket to use as a medium to activate his teleportation abilities. Despite this limitation, he is described as being very skilled at Spatial Magic, though his abilities are not as advanced as Bell's. He stores the blanket he needs for his magic and carries it with him to facilitate quick escapes.
